Job Summary

As a Unit Manager, reporting to the Manager Air Traffic Operations - Airports, your primary responsibility isn’t just overseeing operations—it’s leading people. You’ll manage and develop a high-performing team of Air Traffic Controllers and Supervisors, ensuring they have the support, guidance, and tools to succeed in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.

In this role you will:
- Provide strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring to a team of Air Traffic Controllers and/or Flight Service Specialists and Supervisors.
- Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support recruitment, training, and development initiatives to ensure your team thrives.
- Oversee air traffic operations within your designated scope, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance.
- Implement new technologies, procedures, and programs while guiding your team through change.
- Identify trends and develop action plans to enhance service delivery and safety performance.
- Act as a key liaison between NAV CANADA and stakeholders, including airport operators, regulatory bodies, and union representatives.
- Represent NAV CANADA in operational discussions and provide leadership on key initiatives.
- Support Air Traffic Services (ATS) Standards by ensuring staff meet all licensing, medical, and proficiency requirements.
- Develop and manage budgets, staffing plans, and operational forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with fatigue risk management and safety protocols.
What you bring:
Education:
- Successful completion of secondary school.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of leadership experience managing a diverse team, preferably in a unionized or operational environment.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a budget and related financial processes.
- Human Resources/Labour Relations skills are an asset.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- A solid understanding of an operational environment.
- Proven ability to motivate, mentor, and develop professionals.
- The ability to manage complex initiatives, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and industry best practices.
- Ability to foster a climate conducive to an engaged workforce by promoting company values of respect, excellence, and service.
