About the role

As a Senior Cloud Specialist, you will shape and maintain Irving Oil’s Azure cloud infrastructure, leveraging SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS technologies in a cloud‑first environment. Your goal will be to design, deploy, and optimize cloud solutions aligned with business objectives and industry best practices, while proposing, developing, and implementing architecture solutions that follow enterprise principles and standards across applications, hardware, and software. Your success will be defined by the resilience, scalability, and efficiency of the cloud systems you deliver, and your ability to provide reliable, scalable solutions that meet business needs while maintaining architectural integrity.

Your Responsibilities

  • Deploy and configure Azure resources—including VMs, databases, storage, SaaS, and PaaS—ensuring efficient and secure provisioning
  • Implement and maintain Azure security best practices, including network security groups, encryption, and compliance controls
  • Monitor Azure services and applications to proactively identify and resolve performance issues
  • Optimize Azure costs by managing resource utilization, setting budget alerts, and identifying cost‑saving opportunities
  • Support the design and implementation of disaster recovery and high‑availability solutions to ensure continuity
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for Azure configurations, architectures, and procedures
  • Perform patching, updates, and backup scheduling for applications, operating systems, and cloud services
  • Utilize Infrastructure as Code (e.g., ARM templates) to automate Azure resource provisioning
  • Contribute to architecture strategies, roadmaps, migration plans, technical specifications, and overall solution design leadership

Your Skills

  • Broad IT knowledge across Windows/Linux administration, databases, web/app servers, networking, and security concepts
  • Strong scripting ability (e.g., PowerShell) with the capacity to automate tasks and work effectively both independently and in a team
  • Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills with a structured, methodical approach to incident and root‑cause analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with a customer‑focused mindset and the ability to present technical ideas in user‑friendly language
  • Highly adaptable, calm under pressure, able to prioritize in fast‑paced environments, and exercise sound judgment in decision‑making

Your Experience

  • Degree or diploma in a computer‑related field (or equivalent IT experience) with 10+ years in Information Technology, including 7+ years in architecture, design, development, and deployment, with TOGAF experience or certification considered an asset
  • Extensive experience architecting and designing within the Azure cloud platform, Microsoft Infrastructure & Applications (AD, DNS, DHCP, Intune/SCCM, Windows Server), and Microsoft 365 technologies
  • Proven background designing complex storage and server environments including Cloud, SAN, NAS, and converged compute/storage solutions
