Position Summary:
The Culinary Supply Clerk (CSC) supplies food ingredients, beverage, equipment, and sundry items to class needs through a variety of tasks including supply cart assembly, supply cart return processing, receiving, distribution, storage and maintenance of products and equipment, lab resets in the Chef School. The incumbent ensures that the proper quantity and quality of instructional supplies are assembled and distributed in a timely manner based on the requisitions. This position is the foundation for the logistics of instructional supplies critical for smooth operations of labs, classes, demos, and events in Chef School.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organizes products and equipment, break down large quantity of items as needed and adjust quantities, to suit the needs of requisition, inspect ingredient, beverage products and equipment to be loaded on the wagon for quality assurance.
- Loads the wagon as per Cart/Truck Packing Standard or other internal standard operating procedure.
- Issues, distributes the requisitioned supplies to faculty, staff, students or deliver to the appropriate locations/classrooms, to coordinate with class schedules and special events.
- Breakdown returned supply carts from classes, check condition of returned products and equipment, moves returned items to the appropriate storage areas, and disposes any items that cannot be reused.
- Maintains organization of inventory for efficient use of storage space, and daily tracking of issued and returned items.
- Records add-ons, returns and post completed requisitions on the Adaco inventory software.
- Fills out requisitions and notes any items that require advanced preparation on both requisition and the communication log.
- Provides customer service throughout any/all required shifts of operation addressing/ directs inquiries from all sources to the appropriate staff member.
- Documents or communicates products, equipment and lab issues that would affect other classes daily.
- Inspects accuracy of products received against the invoice and the purchase order (PO) by weighing and measuring all products delivered.
- Checks for quality of the products delivered, assess received product against standards.
- Breakdown delivery skids and transport/stock items in appropriate locations in a timely manner to hold/store products within safe food handling procedures.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
- One-year Diploma form a recognized post-secondary institution in Food and Beverage or Food Service or Culinary Management.
- Must have First Aid, Smart Serve, and Food Handler Certificate.
- Minimum two years practical work experience in Hospitality or Culinary Industry; knowledge of food and beverage products and equipment. Knowledge of how to properly receive, store and issue products is required.
- Experience receiving/distribution in a large warehouse setting with knowledge/understanding of purchase orders and requisitions considered an asset.
- Knowledge of industry related Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines for weights in excess of 20 kg.
- Experience on a computerized inventory tracking system (Adaco or another Food Service inventory management software, Silverware, Microsoft) would be an asset.
Skills and Attributes:
- Solid organizational skills, time management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in an environment which includes extremes in temperature, noise, and odours, working in isolated or crowded situations, and accessing small and confined spaces.
- Able to stand, walk, push, pull, lift, and carry products during the entire shift.
- Ability to lift up to and over 20 kg or 44 lbs. (e.g., Bags of potatoes, produce, milk, bag of stock, etc.).
- Demonstrated communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
- Demonstrated commitment to uphold the GBP’s priorities on diversity and equity.
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.

- The Polytechnic requires proof of degrees, credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post-secondary institutions and/or their international equivalents. Credentials may require validation at the time of interviews or offer.
