A Day in the Life: This position is responsible for the successful, safe, and profitable management of all facets of grain operations, including receiving, grading, cleaning, drying, storing, and shipping of grain and grain by-products. What You’ll Be Doing: Create and/or implement practices, policies, and procedures to ensure operations comply with applicable legislation, regulations, and standards. Direct staff activities through effective scheduling and assignment of responsibilities to achieve maximum throughput, efficiency, and financial returns. Coordinate and direct receiving and shipping operations to maximize handling volumes and optimize the use of handling and processing equipment, prevent excessive truck lineups, avoid rail car demurrage, and meet shipping deadlines. Maintain effective working relationships with Marketing and Logistics regarding grain quantities, quality, shipment requirements, and space availability. Conduct ongoing inventory analysis to ensure liability stock does not exceed physical stock and provide timely advice and recommendations to management. Develop procedures to ensure the most cost-efficient and effective production of screening by-products, where applicable. Collaborate with Marketing and Logistics to meet sales commitments, maintain acceptable stock levels, and, in conjunction with the Manager, analyze and develop annual screening production plans. Assist in the development and management of annual operating budgets, prepare recommendations and submissions for capital requirements, monitor operating statements, initiate corrective or improvement actions as required, and provide reports and guidance on operational issues and risks. Establish and maintain practices, policies, and procedures that promote a safe and healthy work environment, including plant sanitation, security of assets, operations, and personnel. Promote compliance with safety policies and participate in or facilitate safety meetings. Hire, promote, discipline, and terminate employees in accordance with corporate policies. Ensure staff development and engagement through training, development, and performance management programs. Direct cleaning operations to ensure product meets export quality standards and that cleaning processes result in favorable net physical stock following weighed audits. Oversee quality control, reclaim procedures, drying, and blending activities to ensure compliance with industry regulations, health and safety requirements, and best practices that prevent grain deterioration due to heating or infestation. Manage loading logistics for outbound shipments to maximize financial returns on commercially cleaned grain. Perform other duties as required. Skills & Experience Requirements Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in management within agri-business or a related customer service or operational environment. Post-secondary degree in Agriculture or Business Administration. Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required level of knowledge, skill, and competence will be considered. Strong knowledge of grain grading, cleaning, and handling processes. Comprehensive understanding of the grain industry, including applicable regulations and policies. Ability to make decisions that consider their significant impact on business operations, financial performance, goodwill, and corporate reputation.
