About the role
***THIS POSITION WORKS ON A CONTINENTAL 12 HOUR SHIFT ROTATION. ROTATING BETWEEN DAYS AND NIGHTS***
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Maintenance Mechanic plays a pivotal role within the maintenance team, collaborating closely with production and engineering departments to ensure the seamless operation of the manufacturing environment. This position is integral to maintaining and optimizing manufacturing equipment, including robotics and conveyor systems. Responsibilities encompass troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and maximize equipment uptime. The role requires experience in today's fast-paced manufacturing industry, enabling quick identification and resolution of mechanical issues to ensure continuous and efficient production processes.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Modifying, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnosing mechanical issues and implementing effective solutions using expertise in mechanics, fitting, plumbing, welding, metalworking, machining, and analytical problem-solving.
- Executing preventive maintenance programs in accordance with established standards.
- Utilizing the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage and document work orders.
- Troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Recommending and implementing solutions to both routine and complex equipment problems.
- Responding promptly and professionally to equipment issues, minimizing downtime, and ensuring production continuity.
- Integrating plant quality and safety policies into all maintenance activities.
- Removing, cleaning, and disposing of plant waste to comply with the company cleaning and recycling policy.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned by your supervisor as needed.
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and coordinate maintenance activities to ensure efficient operation of equipment.
- Collaborate with production and engineering departments to align maintenance schedules with production goals.
- Serve as weekend acting supervisor: make decisions, handle escalations, and monitor and report on operations.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements during maintenance operations.
- Provide guidance and training to junior maintenance staff as needed.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
- Production Team: Collaborate to minimize equipment downtime and support production schedules.
- Engineering Team: Work together to implement equipment modifications and improvements.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure maintenance activities align with quality standards.
- Safety Committee: Coordinate to maintain a safe working environment.
- Contractors: Manage external service providers for specialized maintenance tasks.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Proficiency in mechanics, fitting, plumbing, welding, metalworking, machining, and analytical problem-solving
- A solid understanding of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems is required.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics for accurate maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory requirements in maintenance operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and components.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and kneeling.
- Work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Use of hand and power tools for extended durations.
- Exposure to varying temperatures and industrial environments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Manufacturing plant work environment
- Potential exposure to noise, dust, and other industrial hazards.
- Adherence to strict safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
QUALIFICATIONS – EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in industrial mechanics or a related field.
- 433A Industrial Millwright Mechanic (Red Seal) certification ismandatory.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
QUALIFICATIONS – SKILLS
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills to address equipment issues efficiently.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and other departments.
- Meticulous in performing maintenance tasks and documenting work.
- Willingness to work 12-hour shift schedule and adapt to changing work environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
