We’re here to make air travel affordable for everyone, and we’re looking for talented individuals who want to help us continue changing the industry for the better. As Canada’s most reliable airline, we're all about offering real value. As we continue to expand our network, increase flight frequencies, and introduce more services, we’re looking for passionate team members to help us in our mission to make air travel accessible for everyone. We know who we are, and we’re confident in our approach - but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

Your Team:

Join the Safety team at Flair Airlines as an SMS Investigator, where you will play a vital role in advancing our safety culture and supporting continuous improvement across our operations. In this role, you will lead investigations into operational incidents and occurrences, ensure compliance with our Safety Management System (SMS), and help develop strategies that mitigate risk. Reporting to the Director, Safety, and working closely with the Senior Manager, Safety Systems, you’ll use your analytical mindset and aviation safety expertise to support a proactive approach to safety. This position is based on-site at one of our offices in Calgary, AB, Edmonton, AB, or Vancouver, BC, and requires occasional travel and the ability to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as operational needs arise.

A Day in the Life

As an SMS Investigator, you will:

  • Conduct detailed investigations into safety occurrences and incidents across Flair’s operations, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze safety data to identify trends, patterns, and potential hazards; develop reports and recommendations for proactive risk mitigation.
  • Perform risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies to address operational hazards.
  • Liaise with departments across the organization to share findings, promote safety awareness, and ensure alignment with SMS policies.
  • Support the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions, including root cause analysis.
  • Assist with the initiation and risk evaluation of submitted Safety Cases.
  • Conduct ongoing research into industry best practices, emerging safety issues, and regulatory changes.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of safety-related programs and incident response strategies.
  • Actively contribute to safety meetings and continuous improvement efforts within the SMS framework.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and serve as a point of contact for safety-related inquiries and initiatives.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director, Safety or Senior Manager, Safety Systems.

What You Bring to the Role:

The preferred candidate should exemplify Flair's core values of honesty, efficiency, accountability, and respect while demonstrating success in previous roles. Additionally, we are seeking individuals who possess:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Safety, Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation Management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a CARs 705 and/or CARs 573 environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in safety investigations and risk assessments within aviation.
    • Familiarity with SMS frameworks and safety regulatory requirements.
    • Background in Flight Operations is considered a strong asset.
    • Experience liaising across departments and managing safety-related communications.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of interacting with all levels of an organization.
    • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and reporting.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking, especially under pressure.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple priorities and stakeholders.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety reporting systems.
    • Ability to perform under pressure and within fixed time constraints.
    • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
    • Flexible and available to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requirements:
    • Clear criminal record check and satisfactory references.
    • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening test.
    • Eligible to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC).
    • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Flair Airlines is Canada's leading low-fare airline and its greenest airline. With an expanding fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft, Flair is growing to serve over 35 cities across North America. Our airline is built for all people, inclusive and friendly, with the critically important mission of providing affordable air travel for all.

Flair is a different kind of airline. For too long, Canadians have been paying too much for too little. It's time to change the way Canadians fly. Our goal is to change the airline industry for the better. We're on a mission to make travel more accessible, more affordable, and more desirable. At Flair, it's not just about the journey. It's about the destination (yes, the dot!) and the experiences that we facilitate for passengers.
