Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is responsible for large scale transportation and water management infrastructure in the province. The Hydrologic Forecasting and Water Management branch provides services including flood forecasting, flood hazard assessment, flood protection, and the collection and analysis of hydrometric data supporting those efforts. Within the branch, the Hydrologic Operations group oversees the collection of hydrometric data, makes operational decisions for major flood control structures, supports the dissemination of hydrometric data, and provides design inputs to a range of water management projects and programs.
Duties:
Reporting to the Senior Hydrologic Operations Engineer, the Hydrologic Operations Engineer assists in the operation of major flood control structures, the development and maintenance of software and systems related both to those structures and to the collection, analysis, and dissemination of hydrometric data, and in the preparation of flood event and post-event operation reports. The Hydrologic Operations Engineer also provides technical support to the branch through the preparation of hydrometric network assessment reports, field work/investigation, and hydraulic/hydrologic modelling and analysis.
Qualifications:
Essential:
-
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with specialization or additional education in the subjects of Hydraulics/Hydrology.
-
Experience in the application of hydraulic principles, theories and modeling techniques for flood/flow routing, the assessment of river ice processes, and floodplain management.
-
Experience working with prairie hydrology.
-
Experience in the use of ESRI GIS tools in data processing and interpretation, analysis and processing of complex hydro-meteorological data to support hydrologic studies and river and lake ice monitoring and modeling works.

Experience conducting hydrologic analysis and modelling for infrastructure planning, design, and climate change impact assessment.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.

Effective written communication skills including ability to prepare technical and non-technical correspondence and reports.

Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
-
Ability to learn and work with appropriate industry software tools and technology to successfully complete assignments/projects.
Desired:
- Experience in logic-based coding.
Conditions of Employment:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Must be a registered Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)

Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence
-
Must be willing and able to travel within Manitoba as required

Must be able to occasionally work outdoors in rough terrain, around water, ice, and traffic in all weather and climatic conditions

Must be able to work for extended hours and shift work as required
