About the role

What the role is all about:

The Haig Camp Attendant is responsible for a variety of duties including the operation of Helicopter management, Grooming, Cooking, Drinking and Grey water management, Solar electrical, propane heating, and general building maintenance. This may sound like a lot, and it is, but these skills can be learned. What is most important to a successful camp is the ability to work with others and work well with coaches and athletes; you also need to know how to prioritize and manage stressful situations.

The work environment is remote and away from civilization, it’s not for everyone.

What you will be doing:

  • Ensure the facilities are maintained in a safe and clean condition according to applicable health and safety standards and WinSport policy
  • Play an integral role in the loading, unloading and management of the Helicopter process
  • Provide all housekeeping, cleaning, grooming and meal preparation services
  • Monitor the various mechanical, water and electrical systems and repair or report as required
  • Ensure the safety of athletes and coaches while at camp and on the glacier
  • Ensure effective communication with WinSport staff based at the BWTC
  • Contribute to the creation and projection of a WinSport Canada image characterized by inclusiveness, integrity, reliability, respect, courtesy, openness and commitment to excellence
  • Perform additional related tasks and project duties as outlined by the BWTC Manager
  • Demonstrate a safe work practice at all times by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one’s own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers, direct reports and WinSport guests
  • Be mindful of all safety hazards/concerns within the work environment and ensure all safety issues are reported to the BWTC Manager
  • Review all OH & S notices/meeting minutes as they are distrusted or posted on OH & S boards located within all departments
  • Other duties as required

What you bring:

  • Ability to multi-task
  • First aid and CPR certifications
  • Food safe certification (online course)
  • Knowledge of Nordic sport requirements - grooming and track setting is an asset, driving a small Snow Cat will be taught during training.
  • Remote camp, food preparation and facility experience
  • Experience in mountain and glacial environments
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Maintenance and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work with others in a team setting
  • Knowledge of basic Solar, electrical, propane, and plumbing is an asset
  • Must be able to work with little supervision
  • Able to respond to inquiries and problems as they arise
  • Safety conscious

About WinSport

The Bill Warren Training Centre (BWTC) opened in January 1994. The facility provides fitness training and support services to Nordic athletes and the public. The BWTC is located at the Canmore Nordic Centre. It was the host site of the cross-country skiing and biathlon events at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games.
