NATURE AND SCOPE
Under the responsibility of the Associate Dean, Student Success, the AccessAbility Technician, supports and participates actively in the development, implementation and coordination of the support measures and services for students requiring special support and accommodations. The AccessAbility Technician participates in the elaboration of individualized plans for students and provides training and continuous support.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the Adapted Services Counsellor in developing, implementing, and coordinating support measures for students requiring support and accommodations

Ensures the process of scheduling and work organization related to invigilating services, note-taking services, and related
-
Ensures the training and proper knowledge transfer as needed and required for the staff or service providers assigned to Center
-
Maintains accurate records and prepares reports as required
-
Assists in the communication with students and families regarding accommodations
-
Reviews documentation submitted by students regarding functional, learning or other disabilities which may warrant accommodations, and participates in the preparation of individualized intervention plans (IIP)
-
Supports faculty members with the application of appropriate accommodations and support measures
-
Meets with students to discuss their individualized plans, adjusts accommodations, if needed, and supports measures and goals whenever necessary

Provides students with assistance related to disclosure strategies, self-advocacy and communication skills
-
Identifies and supports implementation of software and tools to support student learning (i.e., assistive technology, alternate formats, etc.) and ensures the necessary training to students

Researches and obtains class material for students with particular needs (i.e., electronic textbooks from publishers, braille translation requests, etc.)

Ensure the organization and operational flow of exam accommodations, including the scheduling of students

Fulfills other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Special Education or equivalent
-
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French (testing may be required)

Relevant work experience working with students requiring support and accommodations in a higher education environment
-
Experience with adaptive technology
-
Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office software (testing may be required)
-
Knowledge of Clara and Omnivox is an asset
