What you will be doing
These positions are available from April 27, 2026 to September 4, 2026.
Sidewalk Student:

You will be required to cycle the sidewalks using a city provided bicycle, mobile computer equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking, electronic data capture forms, necessary safety equipment, and a standardized defect measuring device

Note the occurrence, severity, and extent of defects and hazards, inspect sidewalks to identify the hazards as well as general condition

Sidewalk inspection work is about 3-4 months’ work based on weather

Perform GIS (minor) and Asset Management work, such as inventory updates as required
Asset Management Student:
- Perform GIS (minor) and Asset Management work, such as inventory updates, as required
- You will be required to inspect diverse types of City assets, such as retaining walls, trails, park features, storm drainage pipes, etc using a mobile computer equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking, electronic data capture forms, necessary safety equipment. Walking or cycling trails might be required
- Note the occurrence, severity, and extent of defects and hazards, inspect assets to identify the defects and/or hazards as well as general condition
Education
Actively pursuing a college diploma or university degree
Experience and Knowledge
Knowledge of GIS would be an asset.
Eager to learn and prepared to work independently outdoors for majority of working time.

Current and valid Police Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.
Proof of current or future enrolment in post-secondary education.
Valid G2 or G class driver's license.
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour
Rate of pay
$17.70 per hour (2025 rate) for a student’s first summer work term as a student outside worker with the City of Cambridge.
Hours of work
Eight hours per day, five days per week for a 40 work week, weekends or evenings may be required.
Hours are as scheduled by the supervisor and based on departmental requirements.
