The Opportunity We are currently seeking a Finance Manager, VNL to join our Commercial team in St. John’s, NL.
This is a permanent position , working a Monday to Friday schedule based in the St. John’s office, with travel to Long Harbour and Voisey’s Bay as required.
As the Finance Manager, VNL you will oversee the strategy, governance, and execution of critical support functions, including finance, capital management, and contract administration, while driving financial integrity and operational efficiency to ensure alignment between financial objectives and organizational goals. This role focuses on optimizing costs, budgets, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance across all Newfoundland and Labrador sites. You will lead a multi-faceted team by fostering a culture of challenge, opportunity, and recognition to achieve high performance. In addition, you will support the Head of Commercial in evaluating business models, capital initiatives, and operational improvements, providing critical insights that enable complex decision-making and sustainable growth.
Additionally, in this position you will:
Strategic Leadership:
- Offer oversight, guidance, and technical advice on operations and projects, coordinating all activities within Newfoundland and Labrador assets while aligning with Base Metals functions.
- Drive the execution of business strategies, focusing on P&L, cash flow, EBITDA, and working capital.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of professionals and associates focused on finance, capital management and contract commercial compliance.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth operations and alignment to deliver the best value.
Finance Management:
- Responsible for all VNL Financial Reporting at the asset level, COO level, BM level
- Interface with stakeholders across financial planning, controlling, strategy, marketing, IT, technology, union executives, and external consultants to ensure governance and maximize value.
Financial Planning and Analysis:
- Oversee forecasting and budgeting planning for a 0-5-year horizon for VNL operations. Standardize effective budgeting, forecasting processes, and tools. Lead budgeting and forecasting for revenue, purchased feed, capex, EBITDA, and cash flow.
- Play a critical role in strategic business planning, identifying opportunities, monitoring strategic goals, and reviewing mining plans (LOAP) from a financial perspective.
Capital Finance Management:
- Performance management and consolidation of data on planning and physical, economic, and financial execution of projects
- Oversee capital investment strategies and funding decisions to ensure optimal allocation of financial resources and monitor and mitigate financial risks associated with capital projects
Compliance and Audit:
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, internal controls, and auditing standards.
- Work with internal and external auditors to support financial audits.
Contract Support:
- Responsible for managing the post award financial and commercial aspects of the contract and all applicable reporting to ensure timely and accurate invoice payments.
- Responsible for driving continuous improvement to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the invoicing process.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Business Evaluation:
- Work closely with operations to align financial strategies with operational goals.
- Support International Refineries in financial reporting and analysis
- Interface with stakeholders across financial planning, controlling, strategy, marketing, IT, technology, union executives, and external consultants to ensure governance and maximize value.
About You Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
Experience:
- Minimum eight years’ of combined finance and leadership experience required.
- Mining industry background preferred but not required.
Skills:
- Exceptional analytical and strategic skills, with the ability to drive change while maintaining operational continuity.
- Advanced skills in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
- Decisive and strategic thinker capable of evaluating objectives, assessing risks, and identifying growth opportunities for competitive advantage.
- Strong leadership abilities to foster collaboration, build cross-functional relationships, and deliver results through strategic goal-setting and resource alignment.
- Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines in dynamic environments with a continuous improvement mindset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams, departments, and stakeholders.

The Opportunity We are currently seeking a Finance Manager, VNL to join our Commercial team in St. John’s, NL.
