The Opportunity
Our team is looking for a highly motivated and reliable Scale Attendant to join our team at our scrap yard located at our head office in Olds, Alberta. This is a full-time role with a Monday to Friday schedule.
As a Scale Attendant, you’ll oversee inbound and outbound vehicle weighing, accurately record transactions, manage office administration duties and assist with yard operations. Your reliability and strong communication skills will ensure smooth, efficient service and customer satisfaction.
How you’ll spend your time
- Weighing and recording transactions.
- Providing excellent customer service and communicating with customers.
- Yard coordination and conducting load checks.
- Overseeing various administrative tasks.
- Participating in site safety and general yard clean up.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers in a professional, friendly manner.
- Weigh incoming and outgoing loads using digital truck scales.
- Record net weights and calculate payment or charges.
- Type customer records and transaction details clearly and accurately.
- Provide scale tickets, explain weight information, and answer basic questions.
- Check incoming loads, sorting scrap materials, and maintaining site cleanliness.
- Operate a computer-based ticketing system for accurate logging.
- Manage various administrative tasks and provide support to the Office Manager as needed.
- Adhere to health, safety, and environmental guidelines at all times.
- Report and escalate any equipment malfunctions or customer disputes.
- Work in loud, dusty, or dirty environments as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in a scrap yard, recycling center, or industrial setting considered an asset.
- Experience operating or working around heavy equipment considered an asset.
- Excellent communicator who works best in a team environment and enjoys customer service.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Basic math skills and strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with computer systems and ability to learn scale software.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Physical fitness is required with the ability to lift 50lbs or more, climb ladders, walk long distances, frequent bending and picking up objects off the ground etc.
