P&H Milling

P&H is the largest Canadian-owned milling company. The P&H Milling Group sources wheat from Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada to produce quality flour and cereal products. The lineup includes hard red spring wheat flour for breads and other bakery products, soft winter wheat flour for cakes and cookies, as well as semolina flour for pasta, organic flour, and atta flour for chappati. In our specialty milling operation in Saskatoon, we also mill pea fractions.

From its mills in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Acton, Hanover, Hamilton, and Cambridge, Ontario; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Lethbridge, Alberta, the P&H Milling Group supplies flour to customers throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Iceland, and Pacific Rim countries.

Your Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Journeyman Millwright will be responsible for conducting routine preventive maintenance, service, repair, and upkeep of plant and facility equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Maintaining the safety and reliability of machinery and equipment is critical to achieving optimal production efficiency in plant operations

Day to Day

  • Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring Health & Safety programs, policies, and procedures are followed.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance tasks and work orders throughout the plant, ensuring timely completion and compliance with safety rules and standards.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, overhaul, assemble/disassemble, and install equipment.
  • Conduct routine plant inspections, identify equipment malfunctions, and provide observations and recommended corrective actions to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Complete work orders and log them in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Work effectively in a food processing environment with an emphasis on compliance with food safety, Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards (BRCGS), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements.
  • Perform and/or assist in the testing and calibration of machines and equipment.
  • Optimize equipment safety, food safety, and reliability by following appropriate precautions to prevent risks to employees and products.
  • Monitor spare parts inventory levels and provide updates to the Maintenance Manager for procurement planning.
  • Maintain documents and records in accordance with all relevant Quality and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to welding, machining, and fabrication, where trained and qualified.
  • Attend safety meetings, training sessions, and certifications as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Journeyman Millwright. Automotive or Heavy-Duty Journeyman or 4th-year apprentices will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in industrial plant maintenance.
  • Experience with GMP and BRCGS food safety systems considered an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Proficient with CMMS programs; quick to learn other computerized systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and multitasking skills.
  • Working knowledge of flour mill operations and/or packaging equipment considered an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed; able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on a rotating schedule, including after-hours calls and weekends.
