About the role
Position Summary
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials (from overseas) to support manufacturing operations. This role ensures that purchases are cost-effective, delivered on time, and meet quality standards, while maintaining strong supplier relationships and supporting production schedules. The ideal candidate has a strong background in material management, Master Production Scheduling (MPS), and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems, ensuring timely and cost-effective supply of materials that meet production schedules and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute daily purchasing activities to support production and inventory requirements.
- Analyze and maintain MPS/MRP data to ensure accurate material planning and replenishment.
- Source, negotiate, and manage suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, quality, and cost objectives.
- Collaborate closely with production, planning, and logistics teams to align material availability with demand.
- Maintain accurate purchase order records, supplier data, and lead-time information in ERP/MRP systems.
- Monitor inventory levels and adjust purchasing strategies to minimize excess and obsolescence.
- Support new product introductions (NPI) by sourcing materials and components in alignment with project timelines.
- Resolve supplier performance issues and implement corrective actions as required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing purchasing or material management role.
- Experienced with sourcing and procuring from overseas.
- Strong working knowledge of ERP systems (preferable Sage X3).
- Proven ability to interpret and act on production schedules, bills of material (BOMs), and demand forecasts.
- Solid negotiation, communication, and supplier relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and advanced in Excel.
