About the role

At Compass, you will work as a School Age Educator alongside some of the most passionate, caring, and dedicated educators in the industry. You will spend your time engaging, connecting, and learning alongside children, families, community partners, and co-workers. You are passionate about early learning and care, emergent curriculum, and lifelong learning. You are energetic, resourceful, and creative in your pursuits of creating learning opportunities, building connections, and engaging with children and families. This position will be working in a kindergarten or school-age classroom in a split shift role and full day shifts during March break, Winter break, PA Days, and Summer Programming.

Location and hours will be based on the needs and funding of the program. Program hours are typically between 6:30am to 8:30am and 2pm to 6 pm Monday to Friday.

Some accountabilities associated with the role include

Plan and lead interest-based and play-based activities that reflect children’s unique interests to promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children. Maintain active supervision with children while still being engaged in play. Documenting children’s learning progress through observation, reflection, and research questions. Create and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety, and well-being of children. Assist the children with diapering, dressing, and eating habits. Foster strong relationships with families and involve them in the learning process. Collaborate with coworkers, families, and community partners to create a supportive environment. Participate in team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and staff training opportunities. Assist in housekeeping duties within the program. Follow CELC, CCEYA, and Ministry of Education policies and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

Requirements: 1-3 years’ experience working with children and youth. Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards. Valid certifications, including a Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid, and CPR Level C, and updated immunization records.

Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators

OR is currently pursuing or is interested in pursuing their ECE diploma. OR has an alternative childcare designation that is eligible for Director's Approval (i.e., Child and Youth, Recreation and Leisure, and Ontario Certified Teachers - Primary and Junior)
