About the Role: The Senior Health & Safety Specialist supports the development, implementation, and management of site Health & Safety systems to ensure regulatory compliance and drive continuous improvement in safety performance and culture. This role partners closely with operations, leaders, and external agencies to build an interdependent safety culture in line with Ferrero Group standards. Acting as a subject matter expert, the Senior Specialist provides strategic guidance, develops advanced training programs, and ensures robust risk management across the facility.
Main Responsibilities: Leadership & Program Development
- Develop and implement site-specific H&S policies, training programs, and annual training calendars.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Ferrero’s global safety standards.
- Act as a primary contact for Ministry of Labour, WSIB, and external consultants.
Training & Education
- Design and deliver advanced training programs (LOTO, Fall Arrest, WHMIS, Forklift, Crane, etc.).
- Coach supervisors and managers to embed safety culture across shifts and UGPs.
Claims & Return-to-Work Management
- Manage WSIB claims, liaising with doctors, adjudicators, and employees.
- Oversee safe and timely return-to-work plans, ensuring compliance with medical restrictions.
Incident Investigation & Risk Analysis
- Lead investigations of serious incidents (SIF/PSIF) and analyze injury trends to eliminate root causes.
- Present findings and recommendations to UGP and plant leadership teams.
Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
- Serve as Management Chair, ensuring compliance, effective audits, and resolution of safety concerns.
- Guide JHSC in pre-start reviews, lockout procedures, and hazard identification.
Regulatory Compliance & Audits
- Ensure compliance with OHSA, WSIB, and other regulations through proactive audits and corrective actions.
- Partner with the Environmental Manager to support chemical storage and environmental programs.
Culture & Continuous Improvement
- Drive a proactive, interdependent safety culture across the plant.
- Implement Group H&S initiatives and foster best practices.
Who we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related discipline.
- 8–11 years of progressive Health & Safety experience, ideally in manufacturing/industrial setting.
- Level 1 and 2 Certification required.
- Strong knowledge of OHSA, WSIB, and applicable regulations.
- Advanced skills in investigation, risk analysis, and safety program development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Power BI.
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence leadership and drive cultural change.
