Job Description We are currently hiring a Technician to join the Ottawa Manufacturing and Operations team.

Primary Responsibilities Under standard support and guidance:

  • For electronic & electro-mechanical product & equipment of simple to medium complexity perform testing utilizing:

  • automated computer based test stations,

  • semi-automated test set-ups, and/or

  • manual test set-ups.

  • Ability to interpret & operates universal test equipment, such as;

  • Oscilloscopes,

  • Digital multimeters, power supplies, etc.

  • Environmental chambers,

  • Vibration tables

  • Associated test equipment.

  • Performs calibration and tuning on products. Performs self-test on test equipment.

  • Able to troubleshoot from system to component level circuit s of simple to medium complexity by exercising knowledge of complex technical data (i.e. printed circuit board density, software and code functionality, smart chips, etc.)

  • Able to identify and resolve technical difficulties.

  • Comprehends & utilizes schematic diagrams, drawings, parts lists, bills of materials, assembly instructions, quality tracking systems (including failure reports, quality charts, etc.), process routing sheets, acceptance test procedures and tests results.

  • Accountable for completion of work orders on time.

  • Completes assigned tasks within expected productivity outputs.

  • Communicate, prioritize and multitasks to achieve team goals.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Requires a two year Community College Electronics Technician Diploma
  • Over 2 years up to and including 3 years of relevant work experience

Complexity

  • Ability to enter, locate and retrieve data and/or documentation using company provided computers.
  • Ability to use common computer applications as required to support task execution.
  • Work is schedule, structured & somewhat routine.
  • Work involves problem solving through the interpretation of acceptance test procedures, corresponding test results and/or technical data packages.
  • Able to apply technical knowledge & methodologies to perform various tests to conduct investigations into failures/failure trends utilizing available equipment.
  • Able to perform analysis, troubleshooting & diagnostics on products & equipment of a simple to medium complexity from system to component level, while maintaining quality standards and defined productivity output.
  • Expected to manage irregularities and work with support staff in resolution of irregularities.

  • Work is assigned.
  • Work with others to identify and implement solutions to any & all issues impacting quality, schedule or product and/or equipment performance.
  • Accountable for quality of own work and the safeguarding of people and equipment.
  • Takes initiative to analyze and troubleshoot technical encounters as they relate to equipment operations from both a software and hardware perspective.
  • Actively participates in team discussions to improve team goals.
  • Shall be flexible to move within functional & product teams/roles as required to support company objectives.
  • Comprehends & adheres to dispatch report to manage priorities of assigned tasks.
  • Compliant to required documentation at all times (ATP’s, ATP appendix, Tech Notes, Programming Procedures, etc.).
  • Judgments & decisions will have a direct impact on the team’s ability to deliver product on time.
  • Takes initiative in maintaining current technology and learn new technology.

Communication and Guidance Giving

  • Communicates effectively (verbal/written) with team members, supporting groups & Engineering.
  • Capable of working in a team environment.
  • Able to engage in technical, operational and maintenance requirement discussions relating to equipment and/or products.
  • Able to interpret & provide explanations of tests results.
  • Requirement to show others how to perform simple to medium complexity tasks, as well as demonstrate how equipment works and provides training on equipment.
  • Voice concerns and report on any & all issues impacting process, quality, and schedule or product performance.
  • Contributes to, and participates in continuous improvement initiatives.

Effort and Working Environment

Physical Effort

  • Continuous movement amongst workstation equipment to complete work. Repetitive hand/finder movement is required for continuous periods of time.
  • Continuous lifting of low weight items with limited lifting of items with considerable weight.

Sensory Effort

  • Moderate degree of visual concentration for periods of time required in testing or troubleshooting of software and hardware for all levels.

Working Environment

  • Some isolation while in production; limited exposure to chemicals, fumes, dust and noise; some repetition; moderation interruptions and occasional high volumes/multiple and tight deadlines.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.

Additional Information What We Offer The hiring range for this position is $31.19 - $36.89 CAD hourly, this position is a 40 hour work week.
