Job Title: Vacuum Truck Operator
Reporting to the Manager, Site Maintenance, the Vacuum Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of vacuum and water trucks to support camp services, site infrastructure, and environmental compliance. This role involves the collection, transport, and disposal of septage and wastewater from site facilities, as well as operating light to medium equipment as required, while ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with Skeena’s health, safety, and environmental standards.
Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To) Septage, Wastewater & Site Services Operations
- Perform dedicated septage hauling operations between site camps, facilities, and approved wastewater treatment locations.
- Collect and transport septage from multiple locations across the project area and access roads for processing at designated wastewater treatment facilities.
- Operate light to medium construction equipment including loaders, skid steers, small excavators, graders, and related equipment.
Safety, Compliance & Equipment Care
- Ensure all wastewater and septage handling activities comply with site procedures, environmental regulations, and health and safety standards.
- Conduct pre‑operational inspections and routine maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Accurately complete logbooks, inspection reports, and required documentation.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and professionalism at all work locations.
- Support camp operations, site infrastructure, and environmental compliance initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform all duties as reasonably assigned.
- May be required to operate the pumper truck from time to time.
The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications
- Minimum Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brakes (Class 1 preferred).
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Required vaccinations for handling septage, including:
- Hepatitis A & B (Twinrix)
- Tetanus (Td)
- Typhoid
Experience / Skills
- Minimum 5 years of water truck and/or vacuum truck operating experience.
- Minimum 5 years of construction equipment operating experience, including loaders, skid steers, small excavators, and graders.
- Strong understanding of safe septage handling, wastewater transport, and environmental controls.
- Proven ability to work independently in a remote camp environment.
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to Skeena’s health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Work Location & Conditions
This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
Compensation The expected hourly rate for this position is CAD $40, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
