About the role

Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician, Science undertakes a broad range of duties in support of the successful operation of the Science Labs. The Technician oversees the advance preparation of the science labs, assists the instructor in the teaching of the labs and proper use of equipment, and ensures that students are following applicable health and safety procedures. The incumbent maintains lab equipment, ensuring that it is in good working order and arranges for repairs as required. The Laboratory Technician, Science utilizes strong communication skills in working with students, providing guidance and instruction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science, or an equivalent degree.
  • Minimum three (3) years related laboratory experience is required, preferably in a teaching environment.
  • First Aid and Global Harmonized System (GHS) training is desirable.
  • Required to work in laboratory environments exposed to hazardous materials that requires employee to be cognizant of all safety protocols & procedures inherent in their field, making use of personal protective equipment as required.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to convey technical and/or challenging concepts in simple/understandable language.
  • Time management and organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to work at any UFV campus as required.
