What the job entails (overview)

The Pharmacy Intern position reports to the Pharmacy Manager to assist with the technical aspects of dispensing prescriptions, administrative duties, and providing patient care as directed.
Where you’ll be focusing (your day to day):
Patient Care & Customer service:
- Follow the customer care and service standards of the Calgary Co-op. Interact with customers and employees in a positive manner to enhance customer services and create a healthy work environment.
Pharmacy operations:
- Providing pharmacy services as directed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist
- Assist in the operation of the Pharmacy Department within the guidelines of the Alberta Pharmaceutical Association, as well as the policies and procedures of the Calgary Co-op.
- Utilize a high degree of concentration when assisting in the filling of prescriptions, this requires attentiveness to detail and accuracy.
- Assist the pharmacist in the preparation of prescriptions
- Help in the management of dispensary inventories, through the ordering, receiving and rotating of stock and supplies, returning outdated and unsaleable product, and assisting in the inventory count.
- To be familiar with and assist in current merchandising practices (when not occupied with duties involving the filling of a prescription).
- To be familiar with all departmental operating objectives and exercise a high level of responsibility towards the achievement of these objectives.
- To be familiar with all merchandise carried in the department, with merchandise normally carried in pharmacies, as well as to be aware of new products and trends pertaining to the pharmaceutical and retail industry. Assist in the proper care and maintenance of equipment pertaining to the Pharmacy.
Other responsibilities
- To be aware of, and informed about Calgary Co-op policies, guidelines, procedures, and approved practices.
- Responsible for general housekeeping duties and the general appearance of the department when not occupied with duties involving the filling of a prescription.
- Using the approved Position Descriptions as a basis, to work with the Pharmacy Manager in developing a detailed annual performance plan for this position, this will form the basis of the annual performance appraisal.
- Assist in special projects as required. Focus on continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility using creativity, ingenuity, and a high degree of common sense.
What you will need (requirements):
- Internationally Educated Pharmacist Graduate (IEPG) on the ACP Provisional Pharmacist register OR student or graduate of a Canadian university pharmacy program that is accredited by the CCAPP
