St. Michael’s School is seeking a 0.8 FTE K to 7 Physical and Health Education Teacher. JOB DESCRIPTION

Our Physical Education and Health (PHE) teacher is expected to plan, develop, implement, and adapt a full Physical Education and Health Curriculum as outlined by the BC Ministry of Education and Childcare. Teachers are expected to organize games and challenges that promote physical activity among children from Kindergarten to Grade 7, as well as support, promote, and help organize the athletic extra-curricular program within the school.

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching physical education classes to children aged 5 - 12 as well as experience in coaching a variety of community sports. Candidates should have a valid BC Teaching Certificate and have excellent communication and organizational skills. Furthermore, candidates should have experience in classroom management and assessment.

Like all instructors, PE teachers must have strong speaking and listening skills. Besides being knowledgeable about an activity, they need to be able to communicate and demonstrate it properly. PE teachers must be able to observe all their students and maintain discipline within the class. A physical education teacher job description may also include interacting with parents, other teachers, and school administrators and creating progress reports for students.
