About the role
**REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:**This position reports directly to the Director, IT & Information.
JOB SUMMARY
The Data Engineer designs, builds, and maintains scalable, reliable data pipelines and platforms that enable analytics, reporting, and data science across the organization. This role focuses on data ingestion, transformation, storage, and performance, ensuring that high-quality data is available securely and efficiently for business and technical teams. The ideal candidate has strong engineering fundamentals, experience with modern data architectures, and a collaborative mindset for working with analysts, data scientists, and IT teams.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Database & Pipeline Management

Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT (extract, transform, load) processes

Integrate data from multiple sources, including operational systems, APIs, and third-party platforms
-
Ensure data quality, reliability, and performance across data platforms
-
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting for data pipelines
-
Optimize data storage and query performance
-
Document data pipelines, architectures, and operational processes
-
Support production issues, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
-
Stay current with emerging data management tools, platforms, techniques, and best practices
Data Modelling, Analysis & Reporting
-
Develop and manage data models optimized for analytics and reporting
-
Clean, preprocess, and validate data from multiple structured and unstructured sources
-
Create dashboards, reports, and visualizations to communicate findings and insights
-
Collaborate with Data Scientists and Analysts to support analytical and machine learning workloads
Governance and Compliance
-
Ensure database systems comply with relevant data protection regulations, data compliance, integrity and security by implementing validation methods and monitoring systems.

Validate data accuracy and identify data quality issues
-
Collaborate with IT leadership to develop and enforce data governance policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard sensitive information and mitigate risks.

Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge & Experience
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field
-
Minimum of 3 years of experience in data engineering and database administration.
-
Proficiency in database management systems and tools such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, DBT, Snowflake.
-
Familiarity with data warehousing and lakehouse architectures
-
Strong proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases
-
Experience with Python, Java, or Scala for data processing and pipeline development
-
Strong understanding of database security, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and disaster recovery strategies.
-
Understanding of data modeling concepts (star/snowflake schemas, dimensional modeling)
-
Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git) and Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery practices
-
Experience with BI Software (Sigma, Tableau, Power BI, etc)
-
Experience with AWS (S3), Azure and other cloud platforms.

Standard office environment with occasional flexibility to work from home.

Occasional requirement to work outside of regular business hours to support database maintenance, upgrades, or troubleshooting.
