Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced CAD Modelling Specialist / Geomatics Technician to support facilities and transportation infrastructure, and engineering projects across Western Canada. This role focuses primarily on developing and maintaining intelligent Civil 3D models rather than traditional 2D drafting or legal plan production.
The successful candidate will play a key role in building corridor models, terrain models, feature line networks, and grading designs that drive engineering design and construction deliverables. This position works closely with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to transform survey data and conceptual designs into fully developed buildable 3D models.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys technical modelling challenges, workflow optimization, and building high-quality 3D models used throughout the design and build processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop 3D CAD models for land development and infrastructure projects using corridors, assemblies, feature lines, and grading tools.
- Build and maintain corridor models for roads, access routes, and site infrastructure.
- Create and manage assemblies and subassemblies to support roadway and site design.
- Generate grading designs using feature lines, grading objects, and surface targets.
- Produce design surfaces, breaklines, and TIN surfaces from survey data and modelling workflows.
- Integrate survey field data (GPS, total station, and point clouds) into 3D models.
- Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to translate conceptual designs into buildable models.
- Extract plans, profiles, cross sections, and quantities from digital models when required.
- Maintain project templates, data shortcuts, and Civil 3D standards.
- Support project teams by troubleshooting modelling issues and improving workflow efficiency.
- Prepare construction engineering survey plans and drawings using CAD software.
- Produce legal survey, topographic, bathymetric, engineering, and construction layout plans.
- Operate CAD software to create detailed and technically accurate drawings under the supervision of the BCLS or Project Manager.
- Ensure drawings meet project requirements, quality standards, design specifications.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Geomatics, Surveying, or CAD from an accredited institution.
- 3–5+ years of related modelling, drafting or geomatics experience preferred.
- Experience working with legal and engineering plans.
- Understanding of basic surveying principles and survey plan requirements.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D using feature lines, grading tools, corridors and assemblies is required.
- Experience with CAD mapping or GIS software is considered an asset.
- Equivalent industry experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Applicants with advanced Civil 3D modelling experience (corridors, grading design, and surface development) will be given preference
Skills & Competencies
- Advanced AutoCAD Civil 3D modelling skills
- Strong understanding of corridor modelling and grading workflows
- Ability to translate survey and engineering concepts into accurate 3D models
- Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Effective communication and collaboration with technical teams
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on modelling efficiency and quality
The compensation package for this position will be commensurate with the level of responsibility of the position as well as the candidate's qualifications.

After serving the Energy and Municipal sectors across the province for more than 25 years, the companies joined forces in 2010 to form Global Raymac Surveys and we haven’t looked back since!
Our team, which now consists of more than 200 members, hails from throughout Canada with experience in a variety of disciplines. From certified Land Surveyors to ambitious students-in-training, professional Engineers to qualified drafters; we draw upon our combined skillset to provide our clients with a wealth of expertise ensuring they receive the best possible service.
