In this dynamic position, you will guide and support staff directly and indirectly, managing a comprehensive health surveillance, emergency services, and first aid medical program. If you possess thorough knowledge of relevant principles, practices, standards and regulations, we want to connect with you! This role involves overseeing and implementing a range of programs, policies, procedures, and departmental standards within the Downstream and East Coast Health and Wellness Site Services team, as well as supporting the Midstream Production Units in Canada and the United States.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Registration as a Nurse with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or equivalent for applicable jurisdiction
  • Experience as a front-line leader or manager
  • Technical knowledge of disability case management, return to work programs, health surveillance, wellness programs, emergency services and first aid, medical principles, concepts, practices, standards, and regulations
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365
  • Strong collaboration skills that enable you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
  • A continuous improvement mindset and can seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide proactive and visible leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the Site Services Team, fostering a culture of engagement and health
  • Guide and govern a multidisciplinary health team, including Occupational Health Nurses, third-party registered nurse contractors working in the health centres, as well as site Occupational Health Physicians
  • Take ownership of planning, implementing, overseeing and evaluating the delivery of first aid, emergency response, health surveillance, and health promotion programs across Downstream, Midstream, and East Coast locations (e.g. Edmonton Refinery, Sarnia Refinery, Montreal Refinery, Commerce City Refinery)
  • Conduct audits to ensure that projects are completed, equipment and supplies are maintained, and procedures are strictly followed
  • Oversee occupational health service delivery by third party contractors, including pre-placement and periodic health assessments, audiometric testing, etc.
  • Collaborate and consult with Integrated Disability Management and Alcohol & Drug teams to support disability case management and facilitate return to work programs
  • Uphold privacy and confidentiality policies and processes to ensure secure management of medical records
  • Lead the planning and execution of wellness initiatives and training programs
  • Manage contingency planning and staffing for turnarounds and major projects
  • Build and strengthen relationships with diverse stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and local health authorities
  • Exhibit fiscal responsibility and effective resource management

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of either our Calgary head office, Edmonton refinery or Montreal refinery
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Will require travel to operational sites (refineries in Edmonton, Sarnia, Montreal and Commerce City)
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
