About Us: Our Quality Verification and Standards (QVS) team is an essential part of EA’s development process, working side-by-side with game teams to deliver actionable insights that improve performance, design, and overall player experience. We help teams build confidence in their features by grounding decisions in practical testing, iteration, and player-focused outcomes
Who do we work with? You’ll be working closely with the Iron Man Franchise at EA Motive in Montreal.
About the Role : The Quality Designer position will require you to develop new quality practices that aim to improve quality across all teams at EA. You will oversee the entire quality plan for Gameplay Team and will report to the QA Development Director . You will also partner directly with the Producer and/or other Designers to establish quality standards and provide both quantitative and qualitative feedback on new features.
You’ll be embedded with a multidisciplinary gameplay pod, working alongside developers, designers, and producers to shape how systems are tested, tuned, and evolved across development phases. You’ll help define quality goals, surface risks early, and ensure we’re validating what matters most — not just what’s easy to test.
This is a role for someone who brings structure where there isn’t always structure, who can connect the dots when information is incomplete, and who builds trust by asking the right questions at the right time. If you enjoy working across disciplines, taking ownership of your space, and helping others move forward, you’ll thrive here.
🔑Your Responsibilities Quality Strategy and Test Planning
- Lead test planning and risk identification for core gameplay features
- Establish quality goals and coverage aligned to gameplay intent and production milestones
- Proactively detect risks early in development (shift-left mindset) to prevent downstream issues
- Adapt strategy as features evolve and scope shifts — staying player-focused
Quality and Data Analysis
- Use telemetry, test data, and gameplay feedback to identify quality gaps
- Track bug trends and system behaviors, not just raw counts
- Communicate issues and risks clearly, with supporting evidence to guide decisions
Collaboration and Communication
- Align daily with designers, engineers, and producers across features
- Surface blockers and open questions early to avoid delivery delays
- Tailor your communication to fit audience and context — from team syncs to leadership reviews
Mentorship and Team Support
- Support QDs or testers through modeling strong craft practices
- Share lessons learned and collaborate on evolving gameplay quality processes
- Contribute to a stronger, more adaptive quality culture within the pod
Our Requirements Experience and Knowledge
- 4–6 years experience in QA, systems design, or gameplay testing
- At least one shipped PC or console title with end-to-end development experience
- Strong understanding of gameplay systems (combat, AI, player interaction)
- Familiarity with game engines (Unreal or equivalent)
- Able to plan and adapt testing across phases, from prototype to polish
Skills And Abilities
- You’re a strong communicator — concise, direct, and comfortable aligning across roles
- You work well in ambiguity — you know how to find answers and make progress without waiting
- You’re collaborative but independent — you know when to pull others in and when to move forward
- You break complex problems into clear next steps, without needing perfect structure
- You reflect, adapt, and continuously sharpen how you work — and help others do the same
