Job Summary Reporting to the Managing Director, Sustainable Investing, the Principal, Sustainable Investing will play a key role in the implementation of HOOPP’s new Sustainable Investing strategy, a key initiative in the 2030 Strategic Plan. In this role, you will be a leading contributor to generating sustainability insights to inform portfolio resilience. You will bring a strong technical foundation and a passion to contribute to the continued advancement of Sustainable Investing at HOOPP.

What You’ll Do

  • Analyze the impacts of sustainability factors on total portfolio characteristics to inform portfolio resilience.
  • Design and support climate stress testing and portfolio analysis to assess systemic risk drivers and concentrations. This includes top-down and bottom-up risk assessments based on climate pathways and asset-specific characteristics and working with climate risk tools or environmental datasets to assess climate physical and transition risks.
  • Integrate large-scale datasets from diverse sources, including climate model outputs, geospatial data, emissions inventories, and financial performance metrics, to support climate risk and sustainability factor analysis.
  • Stay abreast of state-of-the-art research and practices in climate modeling and act as a subject matter expert in the physical and economic impacts of climate change and energy transition pathways.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on sustainability-related portfolio analysis and research.
  • Lead research and write thought leadership papers on the relationship between and implications of sustainability factors and portfolio characteristics.
  • Support additional Sustainable Investing priorities, including board and executive-level reporting.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7-10 years of experience in related role with direct experience in multi-asset class climate pathway analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex, multivariable datasets related to climate, environmental, and financial systems.
  • Capacity to evaluate scenario-based modeling frameworks, such as IPCC pathways, to inform portfolio resilience analysis
  • Familiarity with data tools and programming languages for statistical analysis and model development an asset
  • Ability to synthesize complex quantitative outputs into concise, strategic insights for senior stakeholders
  • Proactivity, with high level of self-motivation and a track record of using critical thinking to address complex problems and develop pragmatic solutions
  • Strong team orientation and drive to cross-pollinate ideas across the team’s workstreams
  • Clear and confident oral and written communicator who can effectively explain analytical or quantitative concepts in simple, practical and high impact manner
  • Commitment to constructive feedback and continual learning
  • Advanced degree(s) in an analytical, financial and/or technical field such as Economics, Environmental Science, Engineering or other relevant area strongly preferred
  • Additional professional designations like CFA an asset
