Led by Clinical Psychologist Dr Laura Lovatt, the service is grounded in empathy, compassion, skilled de-escalation, and minimal use of restrictive practices, in line with Restraint Reduction Network principles. With more than 30 years of experience and a national team of dedicated healthcare professionals, HTG-UK focuses on safe, compliant, high-quality, and sustainable transport for patients and commissioning organisations. Role Description The Assistant Psychologist will support the delivery of psychologically informed mental health transport services in a full-time, remote role. Day-to-day tasks include assisting senior psychologists with assessments, care planning, and formulation, as well as gathering and analyzing clinical information to inform safe, compassionate care during transport. The role involves contributing to therapeutic response protocols, supporting de-escalation strategies, and helping to review incidents to promote restraint reduction and continuous improvement. The Assistant Psychologist will prepare clinical notes and reports, contribute to audit and service evaluation, and assist with training materials for staff on psychological approaches, trauma-informed practice, and person-centered care. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including transport staff and clinical partners, is essential, alongside maintaining high standards of confidentiality, safeguarding, and compliance with relevant professional and NHS guidelines.
Qualifications Candidates should possess strong psychological knowledge and skills, including understanding of mental health conditions, risk assessment, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed, person-centered care. Candidates should possess research and analytical skills, such as data collection, basic statistical understanding, service evaluation, and the ability to interpret clinical information accurately. Candidates should possess communication and interpersonal skills, including clear written and verbal communication, compassionate engagement with individuals in distress, and effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Candidates should possess organizational and digital skills, including accurate record-keeping, time management, and proficiency in using digital systems and remote working tools. A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Psychology, eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society, is strongly preferred. Experience in mental health, crisis services, or healthcare settings, particularly within NHS or similar environments, is beneficial.
