Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Manager, the Supervisor, Database Administrator has accountability, through management and supervision, for the administration of database resources and services across the Corporation while ensuring high levels of data and availability and data integrity.
Work Performed:
- Manage and support of the database environments to ensure reliability and stability of Corporate data.
- Ensure the security and integrity of data including data used in labour relations matters by implementing appropriate security measures according to policy and procedures including users, roles, privileges.
- Manage, review, assign, delegate and direct the work functions of employees, including Information Technology Services teams.
- In conjunction with the Manager and Human Resources, maintains working relationship with the union by following the terms of the collective agreement.
- Undertake corrective action regarding conduct issues with employees in conjunction with the Manager, Human Resources and the union by following the terms of the collective agreement.
- Conduct and/or assist in the performance management and evaluation of employees.
- Provide information, orientation, training, instruction and supervision as required to assist employees in performing their work functions.
- Responsible for the operational delivery and integrity of all corporate databases, ensuring their design, architecture, and high availability, as well as overseeing the backup, recovery, and associated data infrastructure services.
- Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
- Responsible for coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures.
- Monitor database system services and functionality within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
- Implement databases for purchased and in-house developed solutions.
- Remediate database access and performance issues.
- Develop, implement, and maintain change control for database environments.
- Participate in the review and adherence in the overall ITS governance.
- Direct and manage projects from conception to completion, overseeing all aspects of project execution to ensure deliverables are met within timeline and budget constraints.
- Conduct performance management reviews to of project resources.
- Conduct investigations (including MFIPPA, employment, corporate policies etc.) document findings and provide written/verbal reports as required.
- Conduct research and makes recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.
- Develop and administer strategies for the control of Corporate database resources and services.
- Oversee database security, conduct vulnerability and risk assessments, and monitor system logs to pre-emptively safeguard database assets.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and implementation of policies, programs and protocols that reflect this commitment.
- Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; and actively promote a culture of safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in managing Enterprise class (MS SQL, Oracle) databases. Detailed knowledge of database concepts, platforms and implementation strategies including database clustering.
- Oracle DBA Certified Associate / Professional and/or Microsoft MCSE: Data Platform certification is required.
- Certification in ITIL Foundation - an asset.
- Experience and demonstrated effectiveness supervising and coaching staff.
- Formal project management training with Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification an asset.
Qualifications:
University Degree in Computer Science or three year Post Secondary Business Information Systems Diploma, or equivalent.
Compensation & Other Information:
$88,112 - $115,065
This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 2 years position.
Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Work Arrangement: Majority remote. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.
