Job Description Bunton Lodge/W. P. Archibald Centre/WPA Harbour Light Community Residential Facility JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Community Resource Coordinator

Supervision: Director, Bunton Lodge/ W.P. Archibald Centre/WPA Harbour Light

Objective: To assist residents with their re-integration into the community, by providing them access to various resources in the GTA as well as one on one and group sessions to address the following needs: employability, education, and vocational training.

Connect with other community based agencies with the intention of expanding our resource network. To provide in-house training to residents and staff.

Essential Skills And Qualifications

  • Recognized University degree or Community College diploma in the Social Sciences and at least two years’ experience in the Social Services field
  • Acceptance of the Salvation Army Mission Statement
  • Tolerance and compassion for individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to understand the dynamics of residents’ behaviour and assess their needs and risks
  • General knowledge of the Canadian Justice System, and legislation relevant to Corrections and Conditional Release
  • Experience working in the Social Services field
  • Familiarity with policies and programs of Correctional Services of Canada
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Computer skills to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Email and Internet.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • To develop and maintain a list of relevant community resources for residents and staff

Community Responsibilities

  • Liaise with community contacts in an effort to facilitate employment opportunities for residents.
  • Liaise with community contacts in an effort to facilitate program placements for residents.
  • Liaise with community contacts in an effort to facilitate educational placements for residents.
  • Participate in and/or attend community forums/functions related to community reintegration

Service Responsibilities

  • Complete the initial intake on new residents.
  • Co-Jointly develop and monitor the Road to Self-Improvement (RSI) in consultation with counselling staff for each resident within four weeks of resident arrival.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly or monthly job search group programs or as needed.
  • Work on a one-to-one basis with residents on their employment search.
  • Monitor residents on job search for progress on a daily basis.
  • Work with residents to improve their level of education/ skills through programs in the community.
  • Make arrangements for residents to attend non-CSC programs, which are necessary to meet their needs i.e. for gambling, substance abuse etc.
  • Encourage an atmosphere of trust and respect with residents.
  • Report any infractions of the law, parole conditions and house rules to the Director.
  • Participate in the orientation process with new staff.
  • Supervise students as required.
  • Assist residents with the practical preparations for their release such as the search for accommodation, obtaining ID, opening bank accounts, provide a list of resources for charities that help with things as such as furniture donations and other household items if necessary.
  • Provide Orientation Training to all new staff
  • Provide assistance to reception staff as necessary.
  • Participate in the rotational on-call system for the CRF, acting as Director’s Designate in response to emergency situations/parole violations.
  • Facilitate Crisis Intervention training for staff.
  • Provide and facilitate new training initiatives for staff as required
  • Facilitate an aftercare program.
  • Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the Director or Designate to fulfill contractual obligations to Correctional Services Canada.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate fully in all staff meetings, shift changes, case conferences and in-service training when made available.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all residents and staff.
  • Attend and participate in all case conferences.
  • Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of the Salvation Army and Correctional Services of Canada.
  • Attend workshops, conferences when available at the request of supervisor.
  • Read and follow Policy and Procedures Manual and the Employee Handbook and all changes.
  • Engage in formal Evaluation sessions with your immediate supervisor.
  • Function as a supportive team member.
  • As required and where applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency or procedures to Management Team.

Days/ Hours Of Work

  • Monday to Friday, with flexible 8 hour shifts between the hours of 07:00 to 17:00 hours, including one evening per week.
  • May be required to work up to 2 weekends per year to attend/ facilitate staff training.

Vulnerable Sector Check: an original copy of a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that is less than six (6) months old is required by your start date, and the results of the check must be acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion. The cost of the VSC is borne by the employee.

Compensation: Please note that this job falls under a collective agreement. The hourly rate for the Community Resource Coordinator position is set at $28.04, and wage increments are provided based on collective agreement language.

The above responsibilities are to be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct. Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $28.04 to $28.04 with a maximum of $28.04.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
