Communications Specialist Location: Toronto, ON
Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid — 4 days on-site, Friday work from home
Contract Details Position Type: Contract Contract Duration: 12 months (with potential for extension and conversion based on performance and business needs) Pay Rate: C$40.00–C$50.00 / Hour (CAD) Shift / Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Travel Requirements: Not required
Job Summary This role sits within the Corporate Affairs (CAPA) division, overseeing the creation and publication of content that aligns to the strategic objectives of the division. The position operates within a collaborative, supportive team of 10 people.
The ideal candidate is a talented and versatile digital storyteller, strong writer and editor, and veteran digital content publisher with experience in visual and social storytelling formats who understands how to tell compelling stories across channels to engage audiences on multiple online platforms. Familiarity with video production, audio editing, and graphic design will be considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities Produce and edit written and multimedia content that will be featured on Stories, social channels, and on third-party platforms that will help influence stakeholders and drive engagement. Work closely with a team of communicators to develop content strategies and produce engaging branded editorial content that is both assigned to and pitched by you. Look for opportunities to incorporate current affairs into content that resonates with employees and an external audience. Be a champion for content excellence and play a key role in evolving the stories that we tell and how we share them with key audiences, advising colleagues and partners on how to develop more compelling content. Make suggestions to help improve the editorial approach, by leveraging data and analytics to drive better content and packaging insights for colleagues and partners to evolve with each approach. Assist with new communications initiatives and digital storytelling channels as needed and act as a champion for these.
Required Skills 8–10 years of experience in digital content creation Exceptional storytelling experience — worked through various media platforms Exceptional editing and copywriting skills Tech-savvy in the world of data, analytics, and digital publishing Experience with applying SEO & GEO to content creation Producing, packaging, and publishing content for external audiences, leveraging online, multimedia, and social assets Ability to produce a variety of high-quality content on deadline, including executive bylines, impactful short and long-form videos, and compelling profiles of colleagues and partners Ability to ideate, pitch, and project manage content through multiple layers of approval for publication Critical eye for editing, including the ability to tell a singular narrative through multiple pieces of content across a variety of platforms Ability to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that the team is sharing stories in an engaging way, while leveraging all the channels available Passion for storytelling — creative, curious about subjects, and able to write short or long-form copy Editor with a keen eye for compelling content with great attention to detail Ability to research and leverage statistics and facts for storytelling, distilling complex concepts into digestible content Understanding of how to communicate to different audiences, with experience planning content, editing copy, and managing timelines Knowledge of digital storytelling, social media platforms, and how to amplify content across multiple mediums Self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment and excel under tight deadlines Skills related to user experience and web accessibility Exceptional communication skills — understanding of how to communicate to different audiences Quick learner Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Skills Corporate communications background Background in journalism or content creation Familiarity with producing content for podcast channels An interest in branded storytelling, best practices, and telling engaging stories that make an impact An interest in helping elevate thought leadership positioning
Education Requirements University or college graduate in any field required
Required Experience 8–10 years of overall experience in storytelling and communications
Nice-to-Have Experience Previous experience as a writer or editor in corporate communications or journalism Experience with video production, audio editing, and graphic design
Work Environment / Physical Requirements Approximately 2 hours per day spent in meetings Interacts with both internal and external stakeholders No access to customer data No overtime; no rotation
Important Notes Interview process: 3 rounds of interviews; final round is a panel discussion — all virtual, 30–45 minutes A portfolio of samples or a writing test may be requested should you be contacted for an interview
