Job Description
To assess, develop and evaluate Resident care needs and ensure accurate and current
health records, clinical assessments and documentation.
- To assist with the coordination of and participation in Resident care conferences.
- To work closely with DOC to facilitate residents’ move in and transfers.
- Assess the physical health of Residents and use clinical judgment to determine the need for
further assessment or referral to external health providers.
- To order and safe keep drugs and narcotics and administer in compliance with all regulatory
requirements and organizational policies and procedures.
- Communicate with Residents and families about changes in health status and provide health
teaching as required.
- Administer medication and treatments as scheduled, supervise and delegate care to
Unregulated Care Providers where applicable and in accordance with applicable regulations
and organizational policies and procedures.
- Complete assessments where required, initiate /develop or revise the plan of care as
applicable and evaluate outcomes in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, including
the resident/substitute decision maker, physician and any contracted service providers.
- Coordinate resident care assignments to ensure efficient and timely delivery of care
services.
- Respond to and manage significant changes in residents’ condition and or medical
emergencies.
- Act as a supervisor and coordinate emergency response in absence of DOC and Executive
Directors.
- Respond to resident/family concerns and ensure appropriate action taken and or concern
communicated to DOC/Executive Director and other departments.
- Assist the DOC in the coordination, implementation and monitoring of Infection Prevention
and Control, Health and Safety and Clinical Programs and Quality Plans for the Nursing
Department.
- Coordinate and supervise the scheduling and assignment of nursing students from approved
education institutions.
- Plan, directly supervise and evaluate the work of nursing staff on the assigned unit.
- Monitor performance and conduct Performance appraisals and provide feedback and share
with DOC.
- Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating to ethics, morality,
and integrity as set out in the Code of Conduct.
- To complete all other tasks as assigned.
- Adhere to responsibilities and requirements for reporting adverse resident occurrences
subject to regulatory and legislative direction.
