About the role
Bialik Hebrew Day School seeks an energetic and enthusiastic Grade 5 teacher to join our dynamic educational team to cover a parental leave. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing engaging, multi-disciplinary lesson plans aligned with the Ontario Curriculum. This role requires a passion for working with students in a warm and inclusive learning environment that focuses on a holistic approach to education.
This is a full-time position from January 2026 to the end of the 2025-26 academic year and is located at our Viewmount branch in midtown Toronto.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Implementation
- Implement a comprehensive and integrated program that aligns with the Ontario Curriculum
- Integrate social-emotional learning into daily activities and lessons
- Use inquiry-based learning strategies to encourage curiosity and exploration among students
Instruction
- Facilitate engaging and developmentally-appropriate learning experiences for children.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Foster a love for learning through creative and interactive activities
Student Assessment and Support
- Assess and monitor student progress in all subject areas in the Ontario Curriculum
- Provide individualized support and feedback to help each child reach their full potential
- Collaborate with support staff to address the diverse needs of students
- Write student progress reports
Classroom Management
- Create a positive, safe classroom environment that promotes respect and cooperation
- Implement effective and developmentally appropriate classroom management strategies to maintain a productive learning atmosphere
- Manage classroom behaviour in accordance with school policies
Communication and Collaboration
- Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, fellow teachers and school administration
- Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences and school meetings
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the overall educational experience
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education
- Ontario College of Teachers Certification (OCT) with Junior Division qualifications
- Knowledge of Ontario Growing Success Policies
Skills and Experience
- Experience in integrating technology intentionally into the learning environment
- Strong interest in numeracy and literacy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Enthusiasm about inquiry and kinesthetic approach to learning
- Energetic and passionate about fostering a love for learning in students
