##Qualifications

#MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • A degree in Computer Science or Information Systems preferred, or an acceptable equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum 5 years training in database management.
  • Experience with observational studies or clinical trials and the associated data collection.

#EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five years experience working with database management, analysis and data manipulation, with a demonstrated knowledge of SQL server, Oracle, and other database platforms.

  • Experience in programming.

  • Good project management skills and excellent time management ability to meet strict deadlines required.

  • A minimum of five years experience working with clients and user.

  • An understanding of the clinical environment is preferred, including skills in working with health care providers and understanding of privacy issues.

  • Direct experience in programming to extract data from electronic medical records (EMRs).

  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

#SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced computer skills, with documented ability to develop programs that allow the extract of data from SQL, and, or access databases required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required.
  • Sound judgement; proven ability to work independently and as a team member; ability to work within and adjust to shifting timelines is required.
  • Knowledge of best practices in the field of health information regulations is required.
  • Ability to function as part of a team is required.

#OTHER JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of applicable privacy confidentiality policies and laws regarding the collection of and use of health information for the purpose of surveillance and research is considered an asset.

##Key responsibilities

#MaPCReN Data Management:

  • Extract anonymous health information data from electronic medical records, and structure data into a CPCSSN ERD. This may require programming and the development of automated data checking programs to improve data quality. This includes contributing to the design of extraction protocols for use by all CPCSSN sites.
  • Support the provincial MaPCReN research team and the pan-Canadian research team with programming to monitor, extract, and report on data quality, for various health research projects, reports and publications.
  • Develop a data CPCSSN ID and Key, and ensure data extracted at local network site is transferred to the central repository without personal identifiers.
  • Clean data, this will include verifying extracted data against source documentation, identifying causes of poor data quality, and troubleshoot IT issues and then submit clean data in a timely manner to the central repository regularly. This includes assisting in the development and implementation of strategy for data cleaning with other Data Managers.
  • Write data extraction and data checking programs, develop standard operating procedures (SOP), troubleshoot IT issues and assist Research Associates at the local network as required.
  • Participate in regular Data Manager Meetings, and communicate in a timely manner data quality issues to the Senior Data Manager, the CPCSSN Project Manager, and or physicians. Provide quarterly reports to the Senior Data Manger for distribution to the CPCSSN Executive Committee.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and family physicians.
  • Write reports summarizing extraction results.

#Other:

  • Support data extraction and reporting from the Entrada learning management system and build reports based on data related to learner progress and competencies.
  • Support development of automated location reporting for rotations/placements across the various programs in the department of family medicine.
  • Develop reports for end of rotation evaluation.
  • Develop reports for faculty evaluations.
  • May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
