The Regional Genetics Program at Trillium Health Partners-Credit Valley (THP) Site consists of both Clinical and Laboratory Genetic services. Specialists include Clinical Geneticists, Laboratory Geneticists, Genetic Counselors and Genetic Technologists and Lab Technicians.

The THP Genetics Laboratory is an integrated service responsible for Molecular Genetics, Molecular Pathology, Cytogenetic testing of a broad range of specimen types. The laboratory is located in a bright, spacious facility at the Credit Valley Hospital.

Job Description:

  • Investigate clinical significance of sequence, copy number and structural variants found by microarray, NGS assays and Optical Genome Mapping.
  • Search internal datasets as well as published literature, online mutation databases, or other academic resources for information on variants detected in clinical testing.
  • Interpret clinical significance of variants using ACMGG or CAP/AMP/ASCO Guidelines.
  • Prepare variant assessment summaries.
  • Draft clear and concise clinical genetic testing reports. Work closely with Laboratory Cytogenomicists to ensure reporting standards are met or exceeded.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Medical Genomics (MHSc) OR Master of Science (MSc) in Human Genetics and/or Genetic Counselling.
  • Current experience working in a clinical genetics setting is preferred.
  • Experience in analysis of advanced genetic laboratory applications (array technologies, next generation sequencing).
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English.
  • Collaborative team player.
  • Knowledge of commercially available tertiary analytical software applications. Effective critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills.
