As an Asset Management Engineer, you will be responsible for the asset inventory, condition inspection program and asset management plan development for the Parks & Open Spaces outdoor structures and Recreation athletic parks amenity assets. You will liaise with Parks & Open Spaces and Recreation & Social Programs Business Units to reconcile asset inventory and coordinate repair and maintenance. This work will include the inspection, repair, and maintenance of storage sheds, picnic shelters, pergolas, observation platforms, bleachers, public art structures, and community amenities. Primary duties include:

  • Maintain a list of engineered structures needing regular engineering inspections to meet best practices and building code requirements, as well as to fulfill preventative maintenance requirements on engineered assets.
  • Create statement of work and procurement documents to hire engineering consulting firms for third party inspections.
  • Manage external professional engineering consultants and contractors.
  • Conduct visual inspections of engineered structures, applying an engineering skillset and knowledge to assess the condition.
  • Collaborate with internal interested parties to plan, create and implement the inspection program.
  • Develop asset management plans and forecast future budget needs, based on asset inventory and condition assessment data; establish levels of service in collaboration with various interested parties.
  • Assist with condition assessment of pedestrian bridges located in City parks.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering and at least 4 year of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending is required.
  • Experience in structural engineering, condition assessment of structures, and/or asset management will be considered an asset.
  • The successful candidate will be able to work independently and own the assigned processes and portfolios.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as well as an ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences.
  • Success in this position requires skills in collaboration, initiative, and the ability to maintain details for multiple projects and competing priorities.

Working Conditions: Office environment with occasional field work.
