DESCRIPTION:

Performs warehousing, material management and infection control duties to support patient care needs and to facilitate operations of the VEP.

Within this role the employee is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston General Hospital strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Controls the flow of materials in and out of the VEP in accordance with Departmental/Hospital policies and procedures. Ensures appropriate and accurate documentation accompanies equipment both coming in to and going out from, the VEP. Prepares, packages, and transports materials and documentation for shipment. Investigates all equipment returns to the VEP.

  • Documentation & Record Keeping. Initiates, creates, updates and maintains accurate records pertaining to the flow of equipment. This includes such duties as completing a packing slip, shipping transactions, initiating a purchase requisition, reconciling packing slips, completing equipment disposal forms, domestic and international shipping, brokerage, and customs documents.

  • Inspects and performs cleaning and low level disinfecting of mechanical ventilators and related respiratory care equipment using precautions including donning and doffing PPE.

  • Regularly enters data/updates the VEP database and spreadsheets in real time to capture equipment movement and status.

  • Inspects, disassembles, reassembles and performs post re-assembly testing of equipment/parts/and accessories. Sorting and storing in context of quality control.

  • Checks par levels in designated areas and stocks supplies accordingly.

  • Adjusts the settings on various types of respiratory equipment prior to packing as per written instructions of the Respiratory Therapist.

  • Emails, photocopies, scans, faxes and files documents with an emphasis on safe guarding information of a confidential/sensitive nature.

  • Records and reports all damages, shortages, and receipt discrepancies to the Manager.

  • Reports any unusual occurrences, symptoms or happenings to the Manager or delegate promptly

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

  • Successful completion of one post secondary level course in supply/material management or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods required or the ability to acquire within training period.

  • Lift truck Operator Certification required or the ability to acquire within the training period.

  • One year recent experience in a warehouse/production/material management environment within the past 5 years with relevant experience in inventory management, shipping and receiving, handling of controlled and dangerous materials.

  • Ability to speak, read and write in English.

  • Computer literate including ability to use email (to be tested)

  • Ability to work and relate well with others.

  • Demonstrated good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and self-directed in performing position responsibilities.

  • Proven ability to follow instructions accurately, problem solve, multitask and interpret workload priorities and cope with interruptions.

  • Working knowledge of an inventory management database system (applicant will be tested in basic database functions ie: beginner’s level MS Access or equivalent)

  • Ability to control/maintain an appropriate flow of materials from suppliers to warehouse/storage area to meet patient supply.

  • Accurate cataloguing of capital equipment.

  • Ability to read and interpret instruction diagrams for assembly and disassembly of patient equipment.

  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.

  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
