Intermediate Structural Engineering Technologist / Designer

Location: Greater Toronto Area, Ontario Company: 6ixDesign Architects & Engineering Inc. Employment Type: Full-Time About 6ixDesign 6ixDesign Architects & Engineering Inc. is a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm delivering integrated design solutions across residential, commercial, mixed-use, and development projects. We are seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineering Technologist / Designer to join our growing structural engineering team. The successful candidate will have strong technical design and modelling capabilities, practical knowledge of Ontario and Canadian building codes, and experience coordinating with multidisciplinary consultants, contractors, and project teams. Qualifications and Experience The ideal candidate will have: A recognized university or college degree, including a B.Eng., BASc., Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or an equivalent related qualification. Registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or equivalent professional designation. 5–8 years of progressive experience in structural engineering design, modelling, documentation, and project coordination. Strong knowledge of Ontario and National Building Code requirements, applicable structural standards, and industry practices. Experience working with wood, structural steel, and reinforced concrete systems. Technical Skills The successful candidate should be able to: Develop structural analysis models and perform engineering calculations using SAP2000, SAFE, ETABS, or similar structural analysis and design software. Prepare and coordinate structural designs, drawings, details, and technical documentation. Apply structural engineering principles to practical building design and construction conditions. Use Revit and AutoCAD effectively for the preparation and coordination of 2D and 3D structural documentation. Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil information to identify and resolve coordination issues. Support the development of practical and constructible structural solutions. Project Coordination and Site Responsibilities The role will include: Coordinating with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders with limited supervision. Participating in site reviews and preparing related field review documentation, reports, deficiency lists, and follow-up records. Reviewing construction conditions and assisting with responses to RFIs, shop drawings, and coordination matters. Supporting projects through design development, permit, construction documentation, and construction administration phases. Communicating clearly and professionally with internal and external project teams. Leadership and Team Development The successful candidate will also be expected to: Assist in mentoring and supporting junior staff. Review junior team members’ work and provide practical technical guidance. Help improve the overall technical proficiency, consistency, and quality of the structural engineering team. Contribute to internal standards, workflows, coordination procedures, and quality-control processes. Key Competencies Excellent organizational and time-management abilities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical quality. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Ability to manage multiple priorities and project deadlines. Ability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
