Job Description This is an Evergreen Posting used to build a talent pipeline for future Housekeeper/Janitor vacancies. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and qualified candidates may be contacted as positions become available.

Shift Timings Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00am to 4:00 pm with a ½ hour meal break, and Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00pm to 12:00am with a 1/2 hour meal break. Each shift is 7.5 hours. Position Purpose

  • The Housekeeper / Janitor maintains the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of the facility, property and grounds to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
  • The role supports daily operations by performing routine and specialized cleaning tasks in accordance with organizational standards, health and safety requirements, and The Salvation Army’s mission and code of conduct.

Key Responsibilities Facility & Grounds Cleaning

  • Clean and maintain residential rooms, washrooms, offices, common areas, kitchens, dining areas, laundry rooms, and other assigned spaces
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, collect and dispose of garbage
  • Clean windows, walls, furniture, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces
  • Strip and wax floors, shampoo carpets, and perform spot cleaning as required

Property & Seasonal Maintenance

  • Maintain exterior areas including sidewalks, entrances, balconies, and grounds
  • Clear snow and ice, pick up litter, rake leaves, and assist with basic gardening tasks

Safety & Operations

  • Restock washroom and hand hygiene supplies
  • Support building security by checking doors and windows
  • Report health, safety, maintenance, or repair concerns promptly
  • Use cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment safely and appropriately

Physical & General Duties

  • Operate industrial cleaning equipment and tools
  • Perform lifting, bending, twisting, and repetitive movements as required
  • Assist with moving furniture or equipment when needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Note: Duties may vary by location and shift; not all incumbents perform all tasks listed. Education & Experience Education & Certifications

  • Completion of public school
  • WHMIS certification
  • BSW Level 1 training

Experience

  • Up to three months of related cleaning or janitorial experience
  • Familiarity with cleaning products, equipment, and procedures.

Skills & Capabilities

  • Ability to follow cleaning schedules and safety procedures
  • Attention to detail and consistency
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 25 lbs (Proper equipment and assistance provided for heavier loads).

The target hiring range for this position is $24.70 to $24.95 with a maximum of $25.20.

The salary range is based on the Collective Agreement, not any other factors. Compensation Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
