Job Description This project is a media monitoring initiative focused on how young people are represented in mainstream media and social media platforms in France. It tracks news titles and online posts, and uses an Ashoka AI tool to monitor automatically most of the French mediatic field to analyse and classify whether they relate to youth, and in what way. (there are four different analysis criterias) Our goal is to better understand and improve the representation of young people in the media. By analyzing frequency, narratives, and tone, the project generates insights that can inform awareness, advocacy, and strategies for more inclusive storytelling about youth. The volunteer will:
- Review the news titles collected by the monitoring system.
- Check and validate whether the AI’s classification (youth-related or not, and in which category) is correct.
- Flag errors, inconsistencies, or ambiguous cases.
- Contribute to improving the overall reliability and quality of the dataset, as well as the AI monitoring tool.
The role is fully remote and can be done from anywhere but French must be your native tongue!
- Time commitment is flexible — we appreciate any regular contribution, even a few hours per week.
- No prior experience is required; we will provide a short onboarding and clear instructions.
- The project is a great opportunity to learn about media monitoring, AI, and youth issues.
- Volunteers will be acknowledged in project reports and can request a reference letter for their involvement.
- We welcome feedback and ideas from volunteers on how to improve the monitoring process.
Your work ensures the accuracy and credibility of the media monitoring project, specifically the statistics that come from it (which will be used for advocacy). By validating AI outputs, the volunteer helps prevent misclassifications, strengthens the evidence base for analysis, and ensures that any conclusions drawn about youth representation are both rigorous and trustworthy. Please let us know today if you can help!
Volunteer Logistics Estimated hours required per week: 2
The estimated duration of the project is: 1-3 months
This position is Virtual (Remote)
Language Requirements French
Desired Skills And Experience
- Interest in media, youth issues, or social topics.
- Comfortable using basic digital tools (spreadsheets, online platforms).
- Logical reasoning and attention to detail (to check if titles are truly about youth).
- Curiosity and willingness to learn — no prior expertise required.
- Reliability and consistency in reviewing data.
