Position Overview: Reporting to the Service Line Lead for Rotating Machines, your primary focus will be on managing and executing field projects in the area of rotating machines services (motors, generators) business.
Experienced specialist for HV rotating machines (motors and generators) in consulting, diagnostic testing and technical quality assurance associated with both conventional and nuclear power plants is preferred.
You will bring to this position a reputation as an industry expert in on-line rotating machines services as well as both technical and leadership skills in projects related to rotating machines testing and assessment. You will be expected to develop and train in Kinectrics for expertise in off-line testing in the laboratory and field. Travel up to 80% of your time to present & educate customers on our service capabilities.
A critical component of this role will also be leading the implementation of additional capacity and capability within the rotating machines laboratory and field-testing business.
Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
- Manage a portfolio of projects, to meet or exceed the revenue target. Follow all company procedures in place and ensure that all projects are to be completed in a timely manner with profitably ensuring excellent customer service.
- Lead and execute work in the field with assigned staff and team members, achieving effective utilization of resources. Communicate well (i.e. fully & openly) with all co-workers. Requires good interpersonal skills for dealing with clients as well as staff and team members.
- Assist in the negotiation and administration of contracts, including estimates of costs, schedule, and resources required. Carry out customers’ work, prepare reports with recommendations based on results achieved.
- Manage relationships with existing and new clients to support in bringing in orders which meet or exceed targets. Have extensive experience in and excellent knowledge of Rotating Machines market including existing relationships with manufacturers. Ideally with industry organizations such as the IEEE, IEC and CIGRE.
- Must work closely with Service Line Leader and sales to develop new leads and maintain existing client base.
- Build relationships with current and potential customers.
- Provide feedback and client intelligence (i.e. quality, customer satisfaction, safety, technical problems and competitive intelligence).
- Identify sales leads and work with service line leader in sales planning, follow through and close.
- Provide technical sales support through proposals and presentations.
- Remain abreast of technical advances in the field of Electrical Rotating Machines Testing and Inspections.
- Ensure Kinectrics provides a leading-edge service to the industry.
- Ensure that Kinectrics resources (assets and staff) anticipate the needs of the industry.
- Ensure effective project management within service line.
- Ensure personal and service line project commitments and related technical work are completed on time, within budget, and meet standards for quality and value.
- Support lab activities at Kinectrics’ Toronto Campus – test programs, safety, quality
- Ensure client satisfaction.
What You Need To Succeed
- Requires knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices associated with electrical disciplines. This is normally acquired in a 4-year science or engineering university program, plus 2 or more years of concentrated study in advanced subjects
- A graduate degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge in HV Rotating Machines and generators specifically and testing techniques
- Minimum 5 years of direct experience in field testing High Voltage class generators – offline and online testing
- Recognized technical expert in electrical engineering especially as it relates to Electrical Rotating Machines High Voltage testing.
- Strong familiarity and hands-on knowledge with testing to IEEE Stds to lead a team – e.g. for testing include electrical (IR, PI, PD, Tan-delta, Generator Heat runs etc.) and familiarity with mechanical inspections
- Recognized technical expert in electrical engineering especially as it relates to Electrical Rotating Machines testing and inspection services with the ability to lead, develop and mentor a field crew
- Effective interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making ability (based on performance of various projects).
- Knowledge of excitation and governor systems for commissioning and tuning tests of generators is strongly desired
- Demonstrated effective project management skills including leading subcontractor crew on site work (e.g. millwrights)
- Effective technical writing skills – test procedures, test reports.
- Have good written and oral communication skills.
- Licensed Professional Engineer
