About the role

Interested in joining one of Canada’s top performing asset managers? As the business continues to grow, we are seeking an Associate Vice President, Private Credit for an existing vacancy in the team. This role is well suited to an ambitious investment professional seeking a high-growth environment with substantial long-term career development opportunities. Working within a small, experienced investment team, the successful candidate will have significant exposure to senior decision-makers, meaningful responsibility from day one, and the opportunity to contribute directly to the continued growth and evolution of the platform. As MidStar continues to expand, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and play a meaningful role in building a leading Canadian private credit platform.

What You Will Do

Play an active role across the investment lifecycle, including origination, credit underwriting, transaction execution and portfolio management Take an active role in sourcing and evaluating new investment opportunities and building and maintaining relationships with key intermediaries, management teams, and other market participants Perform in-depth credit underwriting and due diligence, including building detailed financial models, valuation and return analyses, and scenario analyses Conduct company, industry, and market research Lead key diligence workstreams, including financial, commercial, and legal due diligence, with support from the Partners Prepare and present investment recommendations and supporting materials to the Investment Committee Assist the Partners in transaction execution, including structuring transactions and negotiating transaction documentation Support ongoing portfolio monitoring and management, including maintaining relationships with portfolio companies and other internal and external stakeholders Track and analyze credit market trends and developments and identify new investment opportunities

What You Bring

Experience: You have 3–7 years of relevant experience in private credit, leveraged finance, investment banking, restructuring, and/or transaction advisory services. You possess strong financial modelling, research, and analytical skills, with exposure to a high volume of transaction execution and due diligence processes. Experience in the U.S. middle-market private credit sector would be considered an asset. Education & Credentials: You hold an undergraduate degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. Professional designations such as CPA, CFA, CBV, or progress toward such designations would be considered an asset. Technical & Investment Skills: You have a strong foundation in credit investing and are proficient in all phases of credit underwriting and capital structure analysis, including the evaluation of first lien, second lien, and other structured debt investments. You possess advanced financial statement analysis skills and significant experience building and analyzing complex financial models. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: You possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present complex investment analyses and recommendations to senior decision-makers. You have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with management teams, transaction intermediaries, advisors, lenders, and other market participants. Existing relationships within the private credit ecosystem would be considered an asset. Entrepreneurial Mindset: You are ambitious, self-motivated, and eager to contribute to building a leading private credit platform. You thrive in entrepreneurial environments, demonstrate resilience under pressure, and are comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting. Team-Oriented: You are collaborative, engaging, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,000. The salary range provided reflects the base salary range for this position as required by legislation. In addition, there is an annual performance bonus which contributes to the total compensation for this position. Further questions may be directed to the HR team during the interview process.
