Job Highlights We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and safety orientated individual for the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic position. A Industrial Maintenance Mechanic performs planned maintenance, unplanned maintenance, new equipment installations, and retrofits within a chemical plant environment. The successful applicant works safely and can work well independently as well within a multidisciplinary team. The individual also has strong critical thinking ability during troubleshooting situations.
Job Responsibilities
- Work safely in a chemical plant environment as part of a team, or in an individual setting, complying with all LANXESS safety procedures and standards to complete planned and unplanned maintenance tasks as scheduled or assigned, including servicing, repairing or overhauling production machinery
- Maintain all tools, work areas, and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion per Lanxess standards, including periodic tool inspections
- Is trained, certified and competent on the use of all equipment, tools, and procedures required to carry out this trade
- Understand and interpret OEM equipment manuals (including drawings and schematics) as required to complete repairs/installations
- Work on jobs with other crafts, work groups and contractors, communicate information pertaining to the repair in a timely manner
- Work with Production & Maintenance to obtain safe work permits
- Responsible for compliance with site behavioral standards. It is expected that only the highest ethical and behavioral standards will be maintained on this site. Encourage positive behaviors within the group (safety, quality, cleanliness) and not accepting mediocrity
- Work schedules may include overtime from time to time, on call during weekends via pager system and is an expectation for employment
- Maintains site and industry specific safety training as required in a timely manner
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis for incidents and failures as required
- Train on and utilize technologies to improve accuracy and reliability of repairs as required
- Perform data entry tasks on tablets/computers for daily activities as required
- Participate in Failure mode evaluations to increase reliability in plant equipment
Job Requirements
- Certified Ontario Industrial Millwright
- Confined Space Hazards training
- Experience with safety permitting systems
- Be familiar with a working environment that involves pipe lines, pumps, agitators, filters and heat exchangers
- Can read and interpret manuals and drawings (e.g. blueprints, schematics, technical drawings)
- Experience in chemical manufacturing preferred
- As part of maintenance coverage for the plant, this role will be required to be on call every fifth weekend
- Familiar with Root Cause Analysis and FMEA principals an asset
- Able to utilize technology such as Laser alignment, Vibration analysis, Infrared, and Oil analysis to name a few
- Familiar and comfortable with computers and tablets for data entry, and work order processing
- Be familiar, and comfortable working with programs such as excel, word, and SAP

The Elmira facility is a state of the art production facility used to manufacture synthetic lubricants and additives for lubricants, plastics and rubber. In addition to the main production facilities we have a comprehensive wastewater treatment system that is used to treat all of the process wastewater that is generated on site, and a groundwater treatment system to remove historic contaminants prior to discharge. The Elmira site is also home to a pilot plant, which is used by our scientists and engineers to develop and test new products and production processes.
Situated on 75 acres (of which 22 acres are used for operations), the manufacturing facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our hourly employees are represented by the United Steelworkers Union.
Both sites (Elmira and West Hill) are registered under the ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
