The Opportunity

Recreation and Culture Services builds vibrant, healthy, active and connected communities by providing facilities and programs that give all Barrie residents an opportunity to participate in recreational activities. Key responsibilities include identifying community recreation needs and interests, developing and delivering recreation opportunities which meet these needs and interests, maintaining and operating recreational and cultural facilities to provide a setting for these activities, and managing the provision of space to external community providers and groups.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Supervisor of Venue Management, the Venue Concierge (PT) positon is responsible for overseeing box office operations, front of house operations, bar and concessions operations, on-site event assistance at all Creative Economy Venues as well as assisting with outdoor festivals and events that are presented by the Creative Economy Department. Specifically, this position handles ticket sale transactions, responds to and/or redirects inquiries, questions and complaints, and provides administrative support. Overall, this position plays an integral role in running front of house venue operations and creating an overall positive event experience through the delivery of comprehensive and friendly customer service.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications)

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Eligibility for and willingness to obtain Smart Serve Certification from Smart Serve Ontario within 3 months of hire

Experience

  • Two (2) years of cumulative part-time experience or one (1) year of full-time experience performing duties related to the above mentioned major responsibilities in a customer service work environment
  • Demonstrated experience providing front line customer service

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • General knowledge of sales practices and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • maintain a high standard of public relations at all times
    • interact effectively and courteously with all levels of staff and contacts in a client service environment
    • listen to, interpret, and understand information and ideas presented verbally
    • develop, promote and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • perform in a manner which is consistent with corporate goals, vision, mission, and values
    • work under pressure to meet deadlines and/or peak period workloads
  • Basic computer literacy utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) computer based ticketing tools, and the Internet
  • Intermediate written and verbal communication, teamwork, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Intermediate time management, attention to detail, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays

Other Important Information

Location: Five Points Theatre and Georgian Theatre

Hours: The normal hours of work are up to and including 24 hours per week with a varying schedule to support business demand.

Wage: This is a casual part-time non-union position with the following 2025 pay range:

  • Hourly Pay Rate: $22.55 to $30.68
