The Department of Division Monitoring is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an Applied Research Assistant to join its team. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting, collecting, and analyzing data while ensuring the highest level of data integrity. The successful candidate will support the development of data collection tools, prepare clear and comprehensive reports, and maintain accurate and well‑organized databases. By contributing to the design, collection, and analysis of performance-related data, the Applied Research Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Division’s strategic planning and informed decision‑making processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct Research and Data Collection
- Conduct literature searches and gather relevant information from various sources;
- Assist in the development and implementation of data collection tools such as surveys and tests;
- Prepare and distribute data collection tools and monitor the receipt of responses;
- Organize and prepare collected data for analysis and ensure the integrity and accuracy of collected data.
Data Processing and Validation
- Conduct data validation to locate and eliminate errors ;
- Digitize completed data collection materials;
- Create and maintain valid databases and reports;
- Ensure the accuracy of Division and school-level dashboards.
Analyze and Report Data
- Validate data by cross-referencing with original sources;
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data;
- Assemble and interpret data for use in reports, projects, and presentations;
- Update and maintain current and longitudinal data reports;
- Draft documents and reports in response to queries or reporting needs.
Unit Activities
- Collaborate on projects and initiatives and review best practices to enhance work efficiency and accuracy;
- Contribute to the development of new procedures;
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree or diploma in an area related to Business, Sciences, Arts or Education plus two years of directly related experience;
- Knowledge of the Alberta Student Record Regulation and the Alberta Education Act;
- Understanding of digital student records systems (PASI and PowerSchool);
- General knowledge of the Division’s operations and business and general understanding of the Division’s mission and vision in a faith-based environment;
- Knowledge of records management principles, the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and the Access to Information Act (ATIA);
- Knowledge of workplace safety and awareness of Occupational Health and Safety regulations;
- Knowledge and alignment with the Division's administrative procedures.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office 365 (e.g., Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook);
- Strong organizational and time management skills to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- Attention to detail and the ability to work with a high degree of precision;
- Ability to respond accurately and timely to privacy and access related questions and maintain confidentiality;
- Strong evaluation, analysis, and research skills;
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to convey complex information so that it is understood by a varied audience;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to generate new ideas and approaches;
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with diverse groups;
- Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities with flexibility and resilience;
- Act with integrity with a commitment to ethical principles and maintaining confidentiality;
- Build emotional resilience, seek feedback, and develop soft skills to foster a collaborative environment;
- Ability to be a self-starter, independent thinker, and the ability to work under limited supervision;
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
