Job Purpose
Reporting to the Community Events Manager, the Development Officer, Corporate Sponsorships plays a key role in advancing The Food Bank of Waterloo Region’s fundraising and community impact objectives. This position is responsible for generating revenue through the acquisition, renewal, and growth of corporate sponsorships that align with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
The Development Officer, Corporate Sponsorships manages a portfolio of corporate partners and prospects, leading all stages of the sponsorship cycle (from research and cultivation to proposal development, solicitation, negotiation, and stewardship). Through strategic outreach and creative partnership development, this role strengthens The Food Bank’s brand, deepens corporate engagement, and supports the achievement of annual revenue goals.
Responsibilities and Duties
EXAMPLES OF THE ROLE'S RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Supporting The Food Bank’s donor cultivation, partnership development, and fundraising initiatives:
- Leading a portfolio of corporate donors and prospects through all stages of the sponsorship cycle, from identification and cultivation to solicitation and closing.
- Driving revenue growth by proactively securing new sponsorships and renewing or expanding existing partnerships.
- Collaborating with the events team to developing and delivering customized sponsorship packages and ensuring fulfillment of sponsor commitments.
- Achieving and exceeding annual fundraising and sponsorship targets by maintaining a strong pipeline and reporting on progress and outcomes.
- Representing The Food Bank at meetings and community events to strengthen relationships, enhance visibility, and identify new partnership opportunities.
- Maintaining accurate donor and sponsorship records in Raiser’s Edge to track engagement, monitor progress, and support effective relationship management.
- Collaborating with members of various Food Bank teams to advance sponsorships and partnerships:
- Collaborating with the Community Events Manager on solicitation strategies and sponsor prospecting.
- Partnering with the Marketing and Communications team to develop persuasive donor materials and ensure timely sponsorship fulfillment.
- Coordinating with the Partnerships Officer to align cross-sponsorship opportunities and manage donor relationships strategically.
- Assisting with other tasks as needed to support team and organizational goals.
Specific examples may vary from year to year as priorities of The Food Bank change.
Location and Hours
- The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is located at 50 Alpine Court in Kitchener, Ontario.
- The role combines in-office and remote work (hybrid work arrangement begins once the incumbent's probationary period is complete).
- Hours of work are generally between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday, for 40 hours per week (inclusive of 1 hour paid lunch each day). However, to meet the objectives of The Food Bank and commitments to our volunteers, members, and community, some irregular hours may be required. This would include no more than two evenings a week and/or two weekends a month.
Reporting Structure and Working Relationships
- The Development Officer, Corporate Sponsorships reports to the Community Events Manager.
- This role is an integral part of our Development team.
- A significant amount of time in this role is spent working with members of the Development and Events teams and current and prospective donors.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- 1–2 years of experience in corporate sales, sponsorship, or fundraising, with a proven ability to secure and close financial commitments.
- Post-secondary diploma or equivalent experience.
- Proven success in building and maintaining relationships with corporate partners, donors, volunteers, and the public, including developing proposals, delivering presentations, and negotiating agreements.
- Experience managing a portfolio or pipeline of prospects with a focus on achieving and exceeding revenue or sales targets.
- Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, CRM tools, and Microsoft Office products.
- Experience in the non-profit sector or with issues related to hunger, poverty, or community development considered an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Required Work Capacities (Skills and Abilities)
Physical Requirements
- Approximately 70% of time spent on desk- or computer-based work, and 30% on standing, walking, or light physical activity.
- Occasional bending, twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling items, including from floor to above shoulder height.
- Performing activities requiring near and far vision, speaking, and hearing.
- Working primarily indoors in a shared office environment with minimal exposure to warehouse conditions (temperature changes, dust, noise, fumes).
- Local travel within Waterloo region (i.e., to attend internal and external events, donor meetings, and related activities) is required.
