About the role

This is a full-time position and could involve working more than 8 hours per day and weekends as needed.

This person is responsible to the Mill Operation Manager for the day-to-day planning, coordinating, directing, and evaluation of workflow and activities of Company Mills. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for following company policies.
  • Responsible for being self-motivated and being able to work independently.
  • Maintains knowledge of and executes all Company Safety Policies and Procedures as required by the organization and other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains and represents a professional and positive image for the company at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Functions as a team member.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Responsible for feed production and all feed plant related activities. Directs, plans, co-ordinates, participates and trains personnel in the daily operations of the feed mill(s) with the assistance of the Mill Operation Manager.
  • Forecasts workforce requirements (number and types), selects, and projects the ongoing needs of the feed mills and fleet management.
  • Audits the operational processes.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of improved production methods, standards, procedures and policies and KPI’s.
  • Foster companywide environment of innovation and a safe work environment.
  • Encourages and creates a strong sense of teamwork amongst the feed mill
  • Provides a strong “hands-on” style of management, utilizing labour skills and abilities where needed to ensure feed mill needs are met in the most effective, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Analyzes and evaluates information from numerous sources and recommends a plan of action; plan, organize, and present ideas in a written and oral manner to a variety of groups and individuals with varied levels of responsibilities and interests.
  • Ensures Feed Mill activities comply with applicable municipal, provincial and federal authorities; ensures required documents and permits are obtained.
  • Assists Mill Operation Manager with the development and submission of the annual and operating budget, justifying variances as required.
  • Directs Mill managers and liaises with Mill Operation Manager to ensure that the information is shared and reported.
  • Develops and implements methods of assessing productivity by evaluating and establishing standards to measure the quality and quantity of production.
  • Maintains knowledge of new technology and trends in the Agriculture Industry by attending Continuing Education Programs, Association and Industry Meetings. Reads current publications within industry and related fields in order to stay current and progressive.
  • Maintains knowledge of and executes all applicable WHMIS, TDG, HCl handling and forklift safety rules and procedures.
  • If an emergency occurs, assesses the situation and takes immediate action to control and/or correct conditions, minimizing effect on the Feed Mill Operations.
  • Collaborates and cooperates with other personnel to ensure that activities are conducted in the best interest of the organization.
  • Directs production regarding all shipping/receiving paperwork is completed accurately.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Five years managerial experience in a similar setting.
  • Direct experience with budget preparation and cost control measures.
  • Direct experience with computer software applications, particularly spreadsheets and word processing would be an asset to this position.
  • Knowledge of feed mill operations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-Secondary Education Diploma in Business Administration, Agriculture or Engineering

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to devise new methods and procedures to meet changing
  • Valid driver license, Class 1 desirable.
  • Being able to cross the border is mandatory.

Salary: $86,577 to $90,400
