About the role

Opportunity:
We are looking for a part-time permanent Family Support Worker to work 24 hours per week in the Tri Cities area.

Reporting to the Manager of Programs and Services of North Fraser, you must be able to travel to families’ homes and within their community to provide a variety of parenting education and supportive interventions that promote healthier family functioning, reduce risk factors, maintain safety and increase well-being. You must also be flexible to work on some evenings.

Cases range from seeing a family one or two times per week for 8 to 12 weeks/6 months, to delivering intensive intervention multiple days a week for 8-12 weeks.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducting and completing detailed assessments for clients referred from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
  • Assessing, screening, referring, and linking individuals to internal and community resources as needed.
  • Compiling and gathering collateral information.
  • Participating in integrative case management meetings as needed to determine outcomes for individuals referred to the Agency.
  • Meeting with families to work on goals of services to address child protection concerns that have been discussed in collaboration with the family and the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
  • Consulting with the Ministry for Children and Family development to co-ordinate and deliver services.
  • Communicating and coordinating relevant client information with agency staff across departments
  • Attend as-needed weekly meetings for the intake, transition and discharge.
  • Provide interventions and brief therapeutic supports to individuals experiencing crisis
  • Linking individuals with urgent needs to immediate resources (i.e. securing food resources, financial assistance, and housing).
  • Actively participating in monthly supervision meetings and bi-weekly group consultation meetings.

Skills You Bring:

  • Experience working with families who may present multiple service needs related to poverty, addiction, gender based violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health issues.
  • Strong counselling, program planning, and communication skills.
  • An understanding of integrated case management.
  • Two (2) + years recent related experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of Computer operating systems (MS Word, Excel, Office, Customer Management Systems).
  • Or a combination of education, training, and experience.

Requirements:

  • Relevant M.A. degree (i.e. Social Services, Counselling Psychology) with 3 years’ experience or relevant B.A. with 5 years’ experience in family preservation/reunification preferred.
  • Current First Aid Level C or ability to obtain this within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Valid Driver’s License and use of own vehicle.
  • Pass a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable persons.
  • A second language is considered an asset.
