SUMMER STUDENT, PROGRAM ASSISTANT – VOLUNTEER SERVICES AND YOUTH GROUP DEVELOPMENT

About the role

Position Summary

The Summer Student will support the Volunteer Services and Youth Group Development team by assisting with volunteer recruitment and onboarding, coordinating youth development activities, providing marketing support for volunteer engagement, and helping with fundraising events. The role also includes general administrative tasks to ensure smooth operations across the department.

Main Duties

Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Assist with posting volunteer opportunities and promoting roles across various platforms.

  • Screen volunteer applications and support scheduling interviews.

  • Prepare onboarding documents, orientation materials, and update volunteer files.

  • Support communication with new and current volunteers.

Marketing & Promotions

  • Help create promotional content for volunteer recruitment (e.g., social media posts, flyers, graphics).

  • Assist in managing social media updates for volunteer engagement.

  • Contribute ideas for marketing campaigns to attract new volunteers.

Youth Development Program Support

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating youth development activities and workshops.

  • Support communication with youth participants and parents.

  • Help track attendance, evaluations, and program resources.

Fundraising Event Support

  • Assist with event logistics, including setup, registration, coordination, and volunteer support.

  • Help prepare event materials and documentation.

  • Support onsite execution of fundraising activities as needed.

Administrative Support

  • Update databases, records, and attendance logs.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and meeting materials.
  • Provide general office support to the Volunteer Services team.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary program in Marketing and Communication, Community Development, Education, Volunteer Management or related fields in a recognized University/College;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Highly detail-oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy;
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities;
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office and basic digital tools;
  • Experience with social media content creation is an asset;
  • Bilingual in English and Chinese, both oral and written is preferred.

Other Requirements:

All summer student positions are funded to promote employment opportunities for students. The position and duration of it are based on funding approval. To be eligible for the program, job applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

  • Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*and;

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of the employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant or territorial legislation and regulations.
