As Malach continues to invest in advanced fabrication technology, we are seeking a Laser Supervisor to lead and coordinate our CNC laser cutting department, which includes two 12 kW flatbed lasers (Amada and BLM) operating across multiple shifts.
Your Impact
The Laser Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and consistent operation of the laser department. This role combines hands-on laser operation during the day shift with supervisory oversight of both day and evening shifts.
You will act as the technical and organizational leader for laser cutting operations – coordinating production, supporting operators, managing maintenance and service activities, and ensuring quality, safety, and throughput targets are met.
Why This Opportunity Matters:
- You will lead a high-powered, high-throughput laser cutting department at the core of Malach’s fabrication operations.
- Your leadership will directly impact capacity, part quality, material flow, and delivery performance.
- You will work with modern 12 kW laser technology from Amada and BLM.
- You will influence programming standards, cutting parameters, and best practices.
- You will mentor and develop operators across multiple shifts.
- You will work with a collaborative leadership team focused on long-term stability and continuous improvement.
Primary Areas of Responsibility:
CNC Laser Operation & Technical Leadership (Day Shift):
- Operate, set up, and program (back up as needed) CNC laser cutting machines (Amada, BLM LS5, or similar).
- Optimize cutting parameters for a range of materials and thicknesses to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Review and adjust programs to minimize scrap, reduce cycle time, and maintain cut quality.
- Support and train laser operators with technical guidance, troubleshooting, and best practices.
- Verify first-article parts and ensure ongoing conformance to drawings and specifications.
Department Supervision (Day & Evening Shifts):
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to laser operators on both day and evening shifts.
- Coordinate workflow and production priorities in alignment with schedules and downstream processes.
- Ensure smooth shift handovers with clear communication of job status, issues, and priorities.
- Monitor attendance, performance, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Review and manage timecards and attendance records for the laser department.
- Foster a respectful, accountable, and safety-focused work environment.
Quality, Safety & Process Control:
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, including laser safety, material handling, and PPE requirements.
- Promote safe operation of high-power laser equipment and enforce guarding and safety protocols.
- Perform and oversee first-article inspections and in-process quality checks.
- Lead investigation and resolution of quality or process issues.
- Maintain consistent standards for documentation, traceability, and housekeeping.
Maintenance, Service & Equipment Coordination:
- Work closely with in-house Maintenance to troubleshoot machine issues and support repairs.
- Coordinate with external service technicians via email and phone to schedule machine service, downtime, and preventative maintenance.
- Support preventative maintenance activities to maximize uptime and equipment reliability.
- Maintain accurate records of service events, maintenance activities, and follow-up actions.
- Identify recurring equipment issues and support long-term corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement & Collaboration:
- Identify opportunities to improve laser utilization, material yield, and overall department efficiency.
- Support standardization of programs, setups, and operating practices.
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Scheduling to improve manufacturability and material flow.
- Provide technical input on new materials, part designs, and process changes.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 3–5+ years of experience operating and programming CNC laser cutting equipment in a fabrication environment.
- Hands-on experience with Amada and/or BLM flatbed laser systems (or equivalent high-power laser platforms).
- Strong understanding of cutting parameters, material behavior, and laser process optimization.
- Prior experience in a lead, supervisory, or senior operator role.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have:
- Experience supervising or supporting multi-shift operations.
- Familiarity with laser automation, load/unload systems, or material towers.
- Exposure to ERP or production tracking systems.
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
Working Conditions:
- Day Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Supervisory oversight of evening shift; occasional overtime as required.
- On-site, hands-on role working with high-power laser cutting equipment.
- All work performed in accordance with Malach safety policies and procedures.
