###Overview
This role is a key driver within our Economic Development team, helping turn vision into action. Our ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who transforms big-picture goals into clear, actionable plans and thrives in a public-facing, relationship-building environment. They also bring experience within the economic development ecosystem and know how to engage effectively with its key partners.
The Economic Development Officer works collaboratively to build and manage productive relationships with the EDC’s partners and contacts. This position also supports supervision of the day-to-day operations of the Economic Development Commission (EDC) by leading projects and initiatives to advance the EDC and RDCO Board’s strategic priorities.
###Responsibilities
Represent the RDCO’s Economic Development Commission with external contacts:
Build and manage relationships with EDC’s partners and stakeholders.
Support the Manager to negotiate multijurisdictional partnership agreements.
Act as spokesperson with local, national and international media.
Assess business opportunities and develop strategies to attract funding.
Provide public presentations to external contact groups including elected officials, community partners, post-secondary and industry.
Advance the EDC Strategic Plan:
Identify and develop key projects and initiatives to advance objectives of the strategic plan.
Coordinate resources and support the development of annual priorities and workplans for staff to ensure programs are developed and delivered effectively and in accordance with the Plan.
Facilitate programs by working closely and proactively with other RDCO functions, partners, special interest groups and stakeholders.
Develop and track key performance indicators to evaluate and monitor EDC performance.
Assist the Manager with monitoring the region’s economic climate and global economic trends, and update the strategic plan as required in consultation with community contacts, EDC Advisory Committee and RDCO Board.
Undertake general administration associated with Economic Development Services:
Negotiate, oversee and develop contracts in accordance with the Purchasing Policy to ensure services are efficient and cost-effective.
Participate in the budget planning process and assist with preparation of budgets.
Provide input for annual budgets and multi year plans.
Review and approve purchase orders and accounts payable invoices within policy limits.
Act as the Supervisor in the absence of the Manager:
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
Support the training, coordination, and scheduling of staff
Support employees in a mentorship capacity, supporting skill development, expanding perspectives, offering feedback, and providing access to tools and contacts.
Other duties as assigned.
###Qualifications
Training and Experience Required:
Degree in Economics, Business, Marketing, or related field.
4 years of related experience; preferably in local government and economic development service.
Economic Development Association of Canadian Year 1 and 2 or equivalent economic development industry training preferred.
Valid BC Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and project management skills.
Excellent relationship building skills with a cross section of groups including: co-workers, industry, community groups and the public.
Ability to lead multiple projects with conflicting priorities.
Strong business acumen with the ability to use sound judgement when making decisions.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other organizations and peers
Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Suite.

$92,700.00 - $113,300.00 /Year
###Work Conditions
**Physical Effort:**Regular travel outside of standard business hours with frequent requirement for public speaking.
**Physical Environment:**Office environment, trade shows, public engagements and client business visits.
**Mental Stress:**Build consensus and collaborate with multiple contacts on complex issues.
Sensory Attention: Presentations, accuracy, tact and discretion.
###Additional Information
This is a fulltime, in office position that works Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Schedule flexibility for regular travel outside of standard business hours is required for this position. It is RDCO’s philosophy to pay in the middle of the range for a fully qualified candidate.
